After selling a very tired Mark VI alto I wanted to tryout every horn side by side and the only shop that had all the saxes was Saxforte. This guy knows his horns! Every sax I wanted to try was setup and ready to go when I got to his shop. No sales pitch for any one brand. Great experience and the 14 hour road trip will have to be told in another thread.8-)

I wasn't aware that saxforte allowed people to come in and try their horns out. I always was under the impression that they were an order only type thing. I'm only about half an hour away, and am interested in one of their altos. How did you work out a visit to their store? Also, how helpful was he in helping you try out stuff, etc?

I purchase a horn online for Saxforte but I understand , if you're able, you simply make an appointment and you can try whatever you are seriously considering.

Its not a place to just show up and just tryout some horns. Call Saxforte and they will ask you what you are looking for in sound, action etc. and they can almost (99%) tell you the type of horn that will work for you. This guy knows more about saxes then anyone I know. They will make time for you. I went there (after selling a tired MK 6)to once and for all weed out all of the "Big Four" and get to playing music and not wondering what if. I went with the Rampone vintage gold alto over the Matt. Ser III alto, JK solid nickel, and the Ref. 54. I could give a review of what I thought about this horn that horn but its a very personal thing for each person so I,ll leave it alone.

2 years ago I bought a Yani T992 Bronze Tenor from Matt at Saxforte. I cannot recommend Saxforte & Matt Aaron highly enough...what a joy to do business with. Although I did not go to Matt's shop, the option was there to come and play horns side-by-side, provided prior arrangements are made. Another post here stated that he doesn't try to sell you on any particular make/model...but boy does he know his gear! More people NEED to do business like Matt @ Saxforte...straight up, honest, value, competitive pricing and none of that, "Hey...psssst, Buddy, wanna buy a Saxaphone?"
(Saxophone intentionally misspelled for emphasis).
