Hello I was wondering if anyone knew of a website where one could look up scales for tenor sax. I know that there used to be a site called Olga that had a chordfinder program for guitar, and I was wondering if there might be something similar on the internet that would look up scales for tenor. Thanks,
CS

Casual Sax, scales and chords are the same on all instruments. So you can use any music theory book. But you must remember that the sax is a transposing instrument. Tenor is a B flat (Bb) instrument, which means if you play a C on the sax, its pitch is a B flat on piano.

For guitar something like a chordfinder does make more sense, because in addition to just the notes of a chord you will find a voicing which works with the tuning of the six strings.

For sax there is a program called "Sax Tutor", which shows you fingerings for scales, and you can play along with it. I don't have the ulr where this program can be downloaded, but I remember it was for free.

If you have understood how to contruct a scale, i.e. where the whole steps and where the half steps are, you probably will learn more if you figure out the scales by yourself. Write them down on paper and have someone with musical experience checking them (e.g. your sax teacher?).

The url is http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/martin_carter/ , quite a useful little program, I only wish my computer soundcard would reproduce sax sounds better!
