Anyone seen one in person, checked it out, or use it? quite a nice looking little set up, where the monitor is connected to the mic stand, and the the mic boom arm attaches to the monitor. Takes up a lot less space, but is it powerful enough, how does it sound?

I saw one set up in my local Sam Ash store. Sounded OK, but it's hard to tell what it would sound like with a band roaring. I bought a pair of EVID 6.2's for my home theater system (my wife was tired of my JBL L-100's taking up so much floor space), and they sound great for that application.

okay, I bought an Evid online. I didn't realize it was unpowered, or I wouldn't have bought it. the base adapter is hinged, and won't hold the weight of the speaker at any angle without slipping. putting a boom attachment on top for the mic doesn't work very well, either. I'm sending it back.
meanwhile, at Sam Ash I found the Stageworks SKFP-206A Powered Monitor. I used it at an outdoor beach gig yesterday with very good results. I ran my Sennheiser Evolution wireless directly into the Stageworks, and ran a line from it's auxiliary out to the mixing board. The Stageworks has a gain, tone, and volume control, and was plenty loud enough. best of all, it didn't seem to color the sound at all. there's nothing like being able to hear yourself.

bill, the EVID was $150 online. only later did I learn that Sam Ash carried it, and I could have checked it out first. oh well. it seems fine sound-wise, but I really wanted a powered monitor. I'd tried the Hot Spot in the past, didn't like the sound, so I was optimistic that Electro-Voice would be much better. putting it in the monitor chain, it didn't have the volume I'd hoped for.
Sam Ash sells the Stageworks for $120, and I talked them down to $99. That's definitely a bargain for a powered spot, and this one really sounds excellent. like I said, no coloration of the sound, and it's plenty loud. I've yet to figure out the difference between the gain and volume knobs on the back of the unit, however. they both affect the level coming out of the monitor speakers, as well as the line level of the Aux out. I'd hoped one would be for speaker volume, and the other for line, but nooooooooo. anyway, you'll need to drill the bracket hole with a 3/8" bit to fit it on a mic stand. I positioned the monitor on the stand at it's lowest point, angled upward to my head. only once when I accidentally got the clip-on within a few inches of the monitor did I actually feed back.
I was running a bit late for this gig, got there 30 minutes before showtime. it was a sideman call, I'm not in the band, but still I don't like to cut it that close, it makes the leaders antsy. I was able to carry in the sax, flute, Stageworks, and wireless in one trip, and set it all up in ten minutes. I like that playing sax means not having to carry much gear, but it was definitely worth the little bit extra trouble, I could hear the slightest nuance in my playing. I still wouldn't bother with this if I was just sitting in for a few tunes, like at an open jam; for that, I bring in my MD421 on a stand, with one of those plexiglas sound mirrors clipped on to the mic stand (WWBW sells a big one for trombone that I use for sax)

thanks hornstar,
looks like Sam Ash is the only place that carries these, that my quick search turned up. and both stores in my neck of the woods are a trek, so i will have to wait to check them out.
