Ok, hopefully from this post it will be my last before I decide to get my next sax, which deffinetly will be a JK. I'm gonna be a sophmore in highschool next year and I marched last year with a SelmerAS300 which I say is a horrible horn, especially after I trashed it at the Texas State Marching contest. And before that I trashed a Yamaha which was a begginer model....just our luck to march in a storm making it impossible to march on beat at 184bpm. And I got both of those horns somewhat fixed. But now I have a EX90Series 2 which was my good concert horn, and I need a better one for marching so I'm gonna use that one for marching and get a new Keilwerth. But my problem....I need one that will be good in concert and jazz combined. Also this will be my first year in jazz band and I'm filling some big shoes as lead alto so I need some advice on which alto has the best tone for jazz and concert. And I bet it aint the ST model

Well if its definitely a Keilwerth and you want a better one than your EX then you have a choice of SX or SXR. I am not sure the tone hole rings make much difference on the SXR except for making the pads stick more (!) maybe your budget will make the choice for you, as the SXR is that much more expensive. You have plenty of choice of finishes and body materials, and some here reckon the nickel silver body ones are the best. What do I know, I have an Anniversary one with a black nickel plated main tune and silver plated bell and neck. Nice horn.

I bought a SX90R alto with the vintage dark gold lacquer over nickel plate. It has a very warm, smooth sounde with my Ponzol II-V-I metal piece, but has tons of edge with a Dukoff or the like.

I agree that the R model is probably not needed in your situation (or any?), and you can't go wrong with any of the finishes. My tenor is a plain gold lacquer SX90R tenor, and it takes on any kind of sound, depending on the reed/mpc setup.

Well I ended up buying another EX90 Series 2 with Black Nickel. My mom said I could get this one new since it was so cheap. $900 And she wouldn't fork out the $1,600 for the SX90 :( But Oh well, she said she will get me any sax my heart desires for my graduation gift :D And with my gold EX90 I made the All Area Band and got all sorts of coments on nice dark warm tones. But now that I have a job maybe I'll the a way to fork out the $1,600 to get an SX90 :D
