Well summer is here and I have nothing to do. I can't find a job so I have basically most of the day to practice everyday of the week. But whenever I practice I find myself getting bored and not knowing what I should be practicing. I would like to practice from 2-4 hours a day and I am concentrating on jazz. What should I be doing?

There's a small paperback book by Jerry Coker called "how to practice Jazz" that you might find helpful to organize time practicing. Like most Coker books, it clear, concise and to the point. Lot of good ideas. It's available online from:

Noel Mac why don't you start by doing 1/2 hour sessions have a break build up slowly. :?: :?:

Hi man,
I think a good advice for you is to make a list of excersise you know and the ones that you really need for techniqe. then list it in a logic way, say, start with long notes with HO then go to long tones with KO, maybe some chromatic stuff to get warm your fingers, then scales of any colors you know (minor,major,augmented,diminshed...) after that go to intervals like whole tone, minor/major 3rd etc.
after you got warmed go to the stuff that you really want to master.
A list of things will help you cause you'll see it in front of you and you'll feel you are progressing in the session and not just practicing without any plan.
good luck.
