Hello all! I have sporadically checked you message boards here over the years looking for jam sessions and open microphones in the general vicinity of my home and work (Tampa/Lakeland, Florida). These sessions come and go, and up to several months ago, the area was having a severe jam drought. However, several weeks ago, multitudes of players have begun to gather in local communities, opening up numerous opportunities to play with professionals.

I understand from cruising the forum that many of you are professionals with no lack of opportunity to play. However, in light of the subject matter, I thought I should share my temporary, good fortune, just in case there are any part-time sax hobbyist's in the area that would like to embarrass themselves in public.

The following are open jam's in the blues venue with weekly guest artists, mostly very talented local artists from the Tampa Bay area including names like Sarasota Slim, Jimmy Griswold, and Michael Bell:

Sunday nights, Lillian's Music Store, Lakeland, Florida
Tuesday nights, Ybor Cigars and Spirits, Lakeland, Florida
Wednesday nights, Coyote's Café, Plant City, Florida
Thursday nights, Jessie's, Winter Haven

And now for a real gem, Monday nights at Ybor Cigars and Spirits in Lakeland, a jazz jam with a local band known as FreeTime. FreeTime was Nat Adderly's local backup for many years prior to his death and really know their stuff, so they can be a little intimidating to the casual player. But if the mood strikes you, here is an opportunity that likely will not last long.
