Hi,
I received a nice Conn Alto from my Grand Father who received it from an American Soldier during World War II.
This sax has the famous Dec 8 1914 Drown Tone Holes patd.
Its serial number is A M249083 L. It's from the 30s I think but I would like to find a list that allows me to identify its exact manufacturing date.
Can someone help me ?
I would also have an idea of its value. It has been completely restored a few years ago.
Thanks in advance
DDA

Take a look at Steve Goodsons site. He has some serial charts for conns that will help you out.

BTW
I have a 248xxx model Conn I've had for years. Just had it completely redone a year or so ago. Mine has the "Art Decco" engraving on the bell and is considered a "transitional" horn. These were made just before the 6m's came out. Mine has many of the 6m features. I think http://www.saxpics.com/conn/transitional.htm has some pictures of a 248xxx alto somewhere.
Let us know what engraving yours has.

Let me know if you know if you can identify wich transitional model it is.
Thanks

Engraving appears to be the same as yours. Very nice horns indeed!

One of the best altos ever made, for my $ (and I've spent some, lemme tell you :D ).
This is the very first model of what we could call the 6M (though Conn had used the number in their sales literature since the early 1920s). Number run was from 245k through 249k, all in 1931-32. They are all underslung necked, with tuners. All have older style left hand pinkie plates, swivel thumb hook, and trill Eb fork key for the right hand.
