Spend a little more. Maybe a used Morgan or a Runyon. It will make a difference in the end. The picture is a clarinet mouthpiece. Your eyes dont decieve you.

I agree . . . spend a little more. Don't fool around with anything "student". A good mouthpiece will make all the difference in the world. True, you must search and take some chances if you can't find a retailer with a good inventory of mouthpieces, but the search is fun.

Besides Morgan or Runyon, there's Jody Jazz (spendy but good), Meyer, and Selmer (I like the Soloists and the Super Sessions, both in F, but that's pretty open for an inexperienced player). DAVE

I have a thread in the for sale section of brand new Riffault made mouthpieces faced like a Selmer c*, with cap and ligature, brand new and CHEAP!! I've been getting very positive responses towards them and have a few left. Ideal for students and far better then a plastic Yamaha.

rdaggett -

Get one of these from Kritavi. They are excellent, and he's doing us all a tremendous favor selling them at his asking price.

can a alto selmer c mouthpiece fit on a tenor sax

It is not advised under any circumstance. Maybe it's possible to actually get it on the tenor neck, but it's intonation and playability would be absolutely terrible.

I have come across tenor pieces before that were so small they fit on an alto neck, but as soon as I played it, I was absolutely certain that it was made for a tenor.

Likewise, it's possible that there are alto mouthpieces that will fit on a tenor neck.

There's a lot of threads in this forum related to various horns and the opinions and experiences people have of them. Be aware that some of the information you find will be more useful than other comments you will come across.

A horn's setup and adjustment is EVERYTHING (well, the most important factor anyhow) - regardless of the brand or expense. In this regard, I recommend you work with a local music store to either help you find a horn that suits your needs or at least have them look it over to make sure everything is set up properly. ...and not all techs are created equal!

Good Luck.

And I wouldn't get one from Amazon; what do they know about mouthpieces?
