i know he is a trumpet player but i would like to say that his sax section was jammin'!!! He was in tampa FL today (where i live), and really grooved! his latest group rh factor will be seen in new york next. how do i know this you might ask? he told me! i got his signiture too! and finally his assorted keyboard/hammond b-3 organ player was really really really really good (i cant spell fun-om-in-al) lol

He's playing near Washington DC this Sunday (the 22nd) and Maceo Parker is playing as well. I'm thinking about going... but that day is also Ethiopian Day in D.C. (fiancee's from Ethiopia), David "Fathead" Newman is playing, Rebirth Brass Band is playing... Decisions, decisions...

Roy will be around for a while. Go see David.
Also, lots of normally "straight ahead" players are making funk albums in the next year. Producers must be seeing some money in it. The results so far have been less than spectacular.
I should say that Roy sounds great whatever he plays. It's just the arrangements of the current tunes that a lot of people are not crazy about.
