In the Jan/Feb issue of Saxophone Journal there is an article on a new tilting Bb bis key. This caught my interest because I have never been fully consistant when manipulating between B and Bb with just the index finger of the left hand.I can go between these notes crisply almost all the time then for some reason get sloppy on a passage.Often times I use a two
finger process just to make sure that I play cleanly. The description of the new mechanism seems to offer a better way to perform this one finger
operation. The trouble is the author,Frank Tehan, finishes his article and then posts no information, that I can find,on who to contact about aquiring the unit or how and if it it can be retrofitted to various makes and types of saxophones.I wrote and emailed Saxophone Journal with no success so far.Does any body know who Frank Tehan is And/Or how to contact him.
(I googled his name with no luck)
Tilting bis key? Sounds like a solution to a non-existent problem.
Tilting bis key? Sounds like a solution to a non-existent problem.LOL. I think I know what you're implying.
Lamar, if I read your post correctly, it seems you are going between B and Bb chromatically, using the bis key. There's no need to do that. For the Bb's going to or from B, use either first finger LH and RH or play your A with your LH and depress the Bb RH side key.

Gary,
If and when this thread goes septic, and blows up into the dreaded "Correct Fingering for Bb" debate, just remember.........YOU started it!!! :) :D

LOL. I wouldn't say never slide from Bb to B or back -I do it sometimes and I know some really good players who do- but it's one of those exceptions. Anyway. I'm right and the rest of you are wrong, so there's no need for anyone to add anything to this thread.

Lamar: I read that article about the newly designed tilting bisBb key. Like RS, I thought it answered a question that I didn't need to ask.
But, I suppose it IS mildly interesting, especially for someone who wants that modification. As to how to reach the author, I'd imagine Sax Journal would be the way if you can't find him on the Internet. DAVE

Perhaps it is much ado about nothing.Even more facinating was the article
about the one handed saxophone.
After reading the article, I was wondering why there would be all this mention of it but no information as to which manufacturer might use this or who is doing retro-fits.
I get better intonation and clarity with bis Bb compared to 1-4/5/6, so I wouldn't mind having a feature like this. If only to partially shield the key from spit drips. I find this an area on the horn my fingertips tend to get wet.

The Rudy Weidoft models had a roller bis key that an unnamed modern sax designer copied for his ubersax. Can't imagine a tilting bis tho....
:?
And gary, those of us who know everything are getting a little tired of those think they know everything:D
