Ok, I've just had a moment of madness and acquired a Carl Fischer C melody which has all the hallmarks of a Buescher stencil. It is in excellent physical condition, and within an hour I have got it playing reasonably
Question the mouthpiece appears to be a no name Alto piece. I have quite a good stock of Alto and Tenor pieces, and assuming that C melody pieces are unobtainable what could I use for this instrument?
Cheers, Dave

Dave, there are modern C-mel pieces available. Runyon, Beechler & Morgan all make a C-mel piece. I've also heard of some Babbit pieces but I'm not sure if they're still available.

I have two C-mel pieces (Bill Street and Beechler). Neither plays as good on my TT C-Mel as does my Kessler Custom OL7 tenor mouthpiece. DAVE

The old ones that came with these horns are really closed facings so you may want to try some different alto and tenor pieces. I actually prefer an alto mouthpiece with a big chamber and about a .075 opening.

Thanks for replies. Amazing that someone makes new mouthpieces for these things, but funds will probably not stretch to that.
I've dug out an old Tone Edge 6* alto that appears to work.

If that 6* is a slant signature, you really have something. I have one and it just isn't right on my C Melody.

It's actually a 6 when I look again. Box says Pompano Beach Fla. Otto link siganature is horizontal between the scroll work and the Tone Edge.It plays great with the C melody. A couple of old Selmer Soloist just don't work, but play great on my Mk.7 Alto. I've not found a Tenor piece that works though.

My error, I was referring to a Tenor not working on the C. One of the best I have found is a Selmer S-90 (big chamber) that is a 190.
