I didn’t quite know how to word the thread title so please bear with me-

I open the “New Posts” and get three or four pages to be read. Now, I want to look at all the titles and read many of the threads. I do not want to time out and then go back and get only one page of New Posts, so I bounce back and forth between opening and closing threads if, especially, I’m taking some time to respond to a post, to avoid timing out. I can do that. Here’s the rub –

Sometimes the SOTW just blacks out, or is overloaded –I don’t know- and it’s also happened that I’ve lost electricity in my place for a moment and any of that exits me out of SOTW. As I write this, SOTW is down for back up.

When, after any of these events, I open the forum back up again, instead of having four pages of threads to read, I get about five or six posts, because, when one is not in the forum for a certain length of time, the “older” threads do not show up on the New Posts page(s). That means that one has to go through the entire forum areas, one by one, opening darn near all the thread areas to find the new posts. Any way to avoid this problem? Is there some simple-minded preference function I’m not aware of like “show all new posts from the last 24 hours” (vs. “last 1 hour)? Thanks.

Would the 'Today's Posts' under the Quick Links menu item handle this better for your reading/tracking needs?

I'll sure give it a try. Thanks Gandalfe.

Would the 'Today's Posts' under the Quick Links menu item handle this better for your reading/tracking needs?Prior to (I think) the last big vbulletin update that saxpics worked on, there were options under 'Quick Links' to show all posts from the the last 24 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours. I used to use that feature quite a lot when I found myself the situations Gary described.

What happened to those options? I've been meaning to ask that for the past 3 or 4 months, whenever it they went away.

Thanks Mike. That's what I was talking about.

A new upgrade to the vBulletin software forced these performance heavy options to be removed by our service provider. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. 8-)

So does the other 'today's post' option not work for youse guys?

Looks like it goes back 24 hours from when you log in. You can also use the "advanced search" function to choose specific time periods (days) to search. So if you hadn't checked in for three days (as if that would ever happen to you Gary!), you could go back and select all those posts.

I'm wrong. Now that I look at it, it either since yesterday or the past week, etc...

I suppose if you know all those cool Boolean search commands you could build a string to search by date & time.

Works for me, but I'm easy.

So if you hadn't checked in for three days (as if that would ever happen to you Gary!)...LOL. Well, there was that time two summers ago when I was at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the hotel didn't have internet connections for its guests and if you've ever prowled Amsterdam at night you know for sure you're not looking for the nearest Internet Cafe! :D

You must be talking about looking for a good cup of joe. :D

When my father was in the army and we were stationed in Germany we went to Amsterdam for a week. I was a little kid, what a waste.

I've only been to Rotterdam at night - kind of dull. Now Hamburg, that's another story!
