Hey Guys,

I posted this question on another thread BUT there was no reply. Hope you can help me with this:

My newly-acquired Custom-Class Tenor has these problems:

1) Key height is high, esp on the RH lower stack. The F key is almost touching the spring! And this key is also noisy.

2) Sluggish Lower C#.

May I know, how low can the key heights be adjusted, without affecting the pitch/intonation of the horn?

Pls advise.

The problem you may be having is that most of us are a bunch of players and not techs. I had my keys lowered by Tim at Sax Alley (a great tech) but I have no idea how far he lowered them.

A quick fix for the sluggish low C might be to disassemble the key, clean it with WD-40, re-oil and reassemble. If that doesn't do it, then having a Pro look at it would be a good idea. Now lowering the RH keys...that's definitely Pro work.

Good luck!

My first question would be 'Where did you buy the horn?'

The only places that I've gotten horns through always make sure that it's setup the way that I like it when I get it. And, if I'm not happy with something within the first month or two of purchasing it, they'll fix it for free.

Just seems like the norm with the people that I like to do business with.
