I've got a Conn 20M alto serial# N227xxx. It was my first horn, and it plays very well. I've owned it for about 7 years. I was wondering if anyone could help me on finding out more, i.e. year, level(student, intermediate, pro) and so on. I plan to keep playing on it, but I'd like to know it's life story.

thanks in advance.

in my experience, of working on a couple od dozen of them, of all the student instruments, these exhibit a standard of manufacture about as scruffy as it comes. To begin with, seriously non-level tone holes and very sloppy pivots. That's typically at least 50 significant faults for a kick-off, all contributing to leaks and unreliability.

There were some replies before the board went down, but I was glad some folks here were able to help me out.

In the 7 or so years I have played on it, I have had very few problems. Maybe I got a good one? I am going to be looking at stepping up to a higher level horn probably over the summer. Then I may pass it on to my younger brother who is interested in starting.

My 20M plays very well. Has a nice tone with the Meyer 6M mouthpiece. I played it against a Yamaha YAS 23 and found them comparable. I would be interested in the experiences of others.
