Hi,

I have one of these in pretty good condition. Lacquer is about 90% and
looks nice. The Eflat key guard is loose at one of the three solder joints.
No major dent, a few dings. Pads are so-so. It needs a bit of adjustment,
but it is clear that this is a good horn. So how much would I get be able to get for it.

Thanks.

I'd like to find out myself - these lesser known saxes are often better than the $$ that they garner.

Bump.

I am selling this horn from my teacher's estate. He died recently.
I need to figure out what a fair price would be.

Here's one that went on eBay for $600 a few weeks ago:

That 600$ looks like a steal to me.
For a horn in the condition that you describe I would expect something around or above 1000$. At least in a face-to-face deal.

My God, how did I miss that? I'm not as obsessive as I thought :|

I would think from $1000 to $1600 depending on condition - they are super horns mechanically and tonally with good response top to bottom when properly set up.

If you check the auction times, you'll see that one got snatched fairly quick. Also factor in the fact that auctions don't actually show up at the start time, but about 45-90 minutes later. This horn was probably visible for about 20 minutes on ebay, max. I was in the process of BIN but was a few seconds too slow.....

The seller didn't realize he/she could have sold it for easily several hundred more.

I'll certainly take the horn for $600...
On the other hand, Sarge at Worldwidesax.com is selling one for $2400, so you might want to pass on my offer ;). Good luck!

If you put it on ebay with a low astart price and no reserve, chances are you'll find out the fair price when it sells

Especially factoring in the three mouthpieces he threw in because (in his words) "they're nothing great but they work well with the horn": a chrome Runyon Quantum 9, a vintage duckbill Berg Larsen metal 100/0/M, and a Florida Link STM 6 with original lig and cap. What he didn't say until he shipped the horn is that it's got a very modest bell push-in. You win some, you lose some.

You the one who bought that? Unh-unh-ummmmm, luckee! I'd be surprised if I ever get that close to one again at that price..... (Already have one Marigaux tenor, but ya can't have too many SMLs, I say....)

Yeah, I'm the culprit. Of course, for every deal like that one there's at least a dozen disappointments. Not long after I bought that horn, though, I found a Reynolds Contempora alto of the same vintage for a nice price. These Gold Medal II-style horns lack some of the bells and whistles of the earlier full on SMLs, but they are fine horns.
