I play in an 18 piece big band with my YTS-23 for 12 years now, have a Yanagisawa mouthpiece and Fibracell reeds. Looking for what might give me a deeper, thicker, sound-have no idea where to start-just want the horn to sound beefier and possibly help produce better intonation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! :D

Have you tried other reeds? I have found that sythetic reeds give me a very bright sound. Fibracells are not as extreme in this regard as some, but they still do it. A natural cane reed might give you the sound you are looking for.

Yes, I used to play on synthetic (Bari Reed brand) for a long time-but have found that I can get the notes out easier with the fibracell reeds.
Can u suggest any other mouthpieces that might be better than the Yanagisawa?? It is a metal one, would a rubber one be better??

Try a meyer, 5M to a 7M will have a reasonabley full sound.
Also, i would seriously try using rico jazz select or la voz, la voz are a bit edgy, but not as much as the vibracell IMO.

Fibracells are just as synthetic as Baris. Try some Vandorens, or even some orange-box Ricos, or some other natural reed. As I said before, synthetic reeds have always given me a very bright sound, while natural cane reeds have resulted in a darker sound.

Try a mouthpiece with a bigger chamber, such as an otto link, morgan, meyer, etc. It will give you that depth and fullness you want.
