All questions about Yamahas have been answered. The forum will be archived for historical purposes.
Yeah it would seem that after the release of the new horns and subsequent intonation issues, Yamaha has been put on the back burner. Maybe people are just put off by the neck issues that everyone is waiting a bit for Yamaha fix all the problems.

My Yamahas are older, so I have no first-hand experience with the G1 neck problems, but my understanding, from reading posts here on SOTW from those who have the new Customs, is that the problem has already been resolved, and that replacement necks are readily available from Yamaha.
Back when the new forum software was introduced here, there was a burst of activity on the Yanagisawa forum. Some people there were gloating that Yamaha was in delcine because, at that point, there were fewer posts on the Yamana forum than on the Yani forum. Gotta be careful not to infer ANYTHING from the activity levels on a site like this.

I'm still waiting to get a G1 neck to replace the M1 on my 875 tenor. WWBW says it'll be August. Anyone know where I can get one sooner?

The revised and corrected G1 necks are available. However, I think top priority goes to those who have purchased the new model tenors with the flawed, first generation, G1 neck. So, if you want a new G1 neck for your 875, I would guess that you may wait longer. Unless, yours is an 875EX.

perhaps us yamaha folk are merely complacent enough in our setups to be able to forgoe endless discussion about what we already assume to be just about perfect as is? there was a glitch with the necks, they're fixed, not much else to discuss... though i don't know if i find the new custom cases as attractive as the old ones, i kind of like the dark brown exterior with the burgundy interior, almost as if to say "this is in no way a selmer, and proud of it." ah well, i'll get used the next generation.

Well, at least they're better than the old stock cases for the intermediate horns. Bought a new 52 in its original stock case, and man, that boy's crazy. Massive black thing with that fabric covering and as heavy as a bari in case, at least for me (who is not one you would call "big"). Eek.

I used yamaha YTS 23 owned by school then tried to buy a Custom Z, but the neck problems made me finish with a Selmer Reference 54, I started out a Yamaha Loyalist now I wont turn away from Selmer they are awesome saxophones!!

It is a big wait and see since the neck issues. Not much to say till we get new G1's to compare with old G1's on any of the new horns.

Yamahas are built incredibly well are consistent and sound good. The do not need to be fiddled about with, have tape attatched etc They play in tune. Apart from the problems with the new neck what else is ther to say.

Yeah yeah yeah!!! I had a Yamaha and the Judge at solofest looked at me like I was stupid for having one...he kind stuck his nose up at it...he said "oh is it a selmer" all excited like...when I said "no, its a Yamaha" he was like "oh yeah...you must like Yamaha" and looked at me as if I was from Mars...he was so mean...

I have been involved in running solo and ensemble festivals at the high school level. If I had seen that sort of exchange I would have gone to the person in charge of the festival and asked that the judge never be hired again. I would also have spoken to the student's teacher to let him/her know that the judging may be biased on the basis of the brand of horn being used. There is no room for this sort of thing in competition.

I was so nervous...I made some mistakes that I usually would not while I was practicing...I will be the first one to admit it...but when I left he said "maybe it was too hard for you" and he wrote it on the score sheet! Except he spelled "too" as "to"...anyway...thats like saying to someone "hey you look sick today". I really did not take his score to heart for several reasons, the main one being that that score is not a sumation of my playing ability but rather how well I played that certain song at that certain performance. He had no right to judge and assume it was too hard. Did he expect me to do a level 5 instead of my level 6 just so I could get an excellent score?

The Yamaha site has been undergoing updates. I was finding new links that went nowhere yesterday and now some new stuff. Wind Instruments has a news page with articles that are new to me and a look like they will be updating to this page.

Check it out. Is this new stuff or am I that lame to just find it?
