This tune is one my favorites for practicing especially with the Aebersold CDs. It has that latin island feel to it. Besides the melody is very simple. I love the Sonny Rollins recording.

Love the song, but sorta tough hitting all the changes. I should practice more though... :?

Try this ... Woodshed for about a half hour to an hour on the changes ... memorize, visualize, theorize .... and than put the music away, close your eyes and try and play what you hear. Improvise a melody and rythm over the rythm section that is something from the heart. Once you have the sound of the changes in your head, improv can be become less mechanical and more spontaneously melodic. This song is a great way to practice this as the phrasing is not too long and the changes are quite repetitive.

I envy people who get to play jazz songs in marching band. There are so many fun visuals you can do while doin a jazz song. But my director's a strict classical and dance director. Here is a site with pics of my marching band, Rancho Bernardo Royal Regiment. http://www.worldofpageantry.com/gallery/index.php?screen=2&action=images&cat_id=23
And also, would anybody be kind enough to type the notes of St. Thomas out for tenor. I played it once from a fake book and forgot them.

But you start on A instead of on G :)
