I've been doing solo requests in the actual wedding for many years now but find myself being asked to play the receptions as of late. Since they would rather have softer (as in volume) jazz standards than the party group I am in (we are rather loud at times, but oh so much fun) I am putting together a jazz trio of tenor/alto sax , keys and bass or drums. I would like advice on what tunes to work up for these gigs. I'm sure there are tons of wedding standards that are out there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What I suggest is not typically "wedding" songs, but would very well fit in that kind of environement. What about Bossas, Jobim, Stan Getz kind of repertoire? IMO everyone enjoys that kind of flavor in music; it's warm, classy and not disturbing at all. I think it would fit great in that context.

Thanks Kim! Thats a good start...any suggestions of song title's that you have done that have worked well? Also suggestions about where the songs can be found would be of help as well.
Titles: Desafinado, Quiet Night and Quiet Stars (aka: Corcovado) , The girl from Ipanema, No more Blues (aka: Sega de Saudade (sp?)) , Triste, Meditation, One note samba, Carnival (Black Orpheus) ...there's more but my mind is running blank at the moment.
Have fun!
Actually Blue in Green from Miles Davis played with a Bossa feel sounds real good. You can do that with other standards I'm sure, add a little Latin flavor to it
The Nearness of You
My One and Only Love
My Romance (works well at a medium swing tempo)
I Get A Kick Out Of You
What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life
They Can't Take That Away From Me
Moon River
Tenderly
You Belong To Me
The Second Time Around (if the Bride and Groom have a sense of humor or its a second marriage. 8) )
...thousands more...

Whenever I play at a wedding reception with my trio roup (keyboard, bass, sax or sometimes keyboard/bass, drums, sax) we like to unveil our twisted sense of humor. Sometimes we'll play tunes like "You Don't Know What Love Is." Sounds rotten, I know, but often the guests aren't listening anyway.
Otherwise, the previous posts offer good suggestions. Try "My Romance" in three for a waltz...it's fun to do. And "Gentle Rain" is a good bossa nova for background music.
