Gary.. that's an understatement. This gig is like getting 6months of lessons for FREE... cause these two are going to take you to school!!!!

For those of you that have not seem this dynamic duo play together... it is worth the trip from anywhere on the East Coast... and at $10 to get in.. you can afford to buy the gas, or a cheap plane ticket from anywhere.

I have had the pleasure of seeing these guys together on several occasions, and every time, the energy level is 250%.
Rachel and Tim (along with Bobby and Scott) create an absolutely incredible vibe on stage. Rachel justs creates this unbelievable harmonic path, and groove, that just lights Tim's playing into overdrive, and creates some of the best live jazz you are ever going to hear.. (especially in Reading, PA... cause there just ain't anything better than this going on in or near Reading)

2 Thumbs UP!!! ... Thank god someone woke up and booked this act back in town!!!!.. it's been TOOOOOOO LOOONNGGGG!!!

Guys... the ELECTRIC Bassoon itself is worth the trip... cause you aint gonna here that ANYWHERE else!!!!

Rachael, Tim, Scott & Bobby are each extremely accomplished musicians in their own individual rights...but put them together and it is the TRUE meaning of "SYNERGY!" No matter what it takes, if it's even remotely possible for you to get there...DO IT...YOU WILL BE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
glad you did!!! My friend Diane and I will be there and I'm hoping she'll be inspired enough to start playing piano again.

I really appreciate the kind words, and respect of the music that Rachel and I create. < as well as Bobbie and Scott >
The attendance in the club for this band was always great, from the start. Also there is a fun vibe going on, as serious as it gets is also as serious as it is FUN. ( SERIOUS FUN- lol )
In addition- it rings true of some stuff Mickey Hart talks about -" Music is feeling. Once you start thinking about it then you overdevelop it. It should come from the heart, the soul, and the subconscious. Music is all about the moment, and if you think about it then you're already in the next moment." That is something Z' and I and Bobbie really feel is going on here.
The agenda that Rachel Z and I have is something that just makes me want to step beyond my normal groove and get in the zone.

Dean has heard the band a lot, and each gig was different within. Sinse being around Bob Weir, I've added some other effects to the bassoon.I got some inspiration from talking to Bob about all kinds of stuff. Like this " Vox" wha-pedal going into a Boss octave effects. When I use it on a tune like Wayne's " Water Babys" it really gets "in there". Tho, nothing ever could beat the one gig that Rachel brought her dog Mr Chen to for JazzFest. lol- Mr Chen rocks.

We _were_supposed to have a gig in July but it was moved... and slow-mo'd till now.One would think, when a band does well, you'd want that energy closer via gigs. I dunno,,,
The level of music is beyond_any_issue I'd ever encounter.
The vibe is something that I can't put into words. It just feels right and is very inspirational.
Guys... Thanks very much big time.
I APPRECIATE IT.

This group has never failed do anything less than the sublime, every year
I see them at Berks they have really torn the roof off.

The listening dynamics and interplay betwee Tim and Rachel is really at an
apex . Rachel is a tremendous asset and a springboard for what Tim does.
Scott Lee on bass I've seen playing with Tim for many, many years, now--
I first saw him in 1998 .

The different places and moods this band can go is really amazing, which is
for my money a hell of a LOT more enjoyable than a strictly retro approach;
nothing at all wrong with retro(I stand guilty of it myself) but the stylizing
of it has been well-represented and well-documented .

The electro bassoon thing is really the BIG hook in this group, and is something,
that I honestly am not aware of too many others exploring.

This band can really get down and shake the walls and rock the house,
and then pull it back and get into another kind of slow burning simmer;
play a shimmering ballad that will set chills down your spine and bring tears
of joy to your face.

Rachel's facility and more importantly the scope and breadth of her
abilities as a soloist, comper, and ensemble player are really at the very
top, top level of modern players. She always plays like her life is depending
on it, wringing every last bit of expression from the ivories.

I always notice a kind of aura come over the bandstand when this group
hits; everything locks in as one cohesive unit, and there's a very palpable
energy flow happening from the drums to the upright bass on thru to Rachel
and then, Tim, is like a lightening rod for all of this swirling energy happening

Extremely combustible, take-no-prisoners music .

I'm always reminded, too, when I see them that this particular unit sounds
as well-oiled a machine as any criss-crossing, barnstorming quartet from the
golden era in jazz whose mettle was tested on a nightly basis 7 days a
week.

In other words they sound like a band, and not a pickup group playing
a casual.. no real books, no music stand, no fumbling around.

Looking forward to this one .8-)

Man, I missed this show in July when it was cancelled. I put this show on my calendar the minute I saw the post! For only $10 admission, I can afford to buy a couple of rounds for the band!!!!

Can't wait Tim. And to think I will hear you play just a few days after this gig as well!

Hey Larry, Tim Price's music is the gift that keeps on giving ! :treble: :santa::bass:

I have been LOVING the Passion Sax CD that I got from Tim. I am thinking of giving a few to some friends for Christmas as well.

Keeps on giving, you bet, cause Tim is the most giving musician I know.

Hope to meet some of you from the area at this gig as well. Maybe I should stay over night at the Inn and take off on Friday!

In a word .. Awesome.

Larry I was so blown away by that track, I think that was the first time
in my LIFE where I felt a compulsion to actually play the clarinet !

Prior to that I listened and appreciated the great clarinetists in the idiom,
but was NEVER inspired to want to play it myself.

Tim's clarinet playing puts the lotion in the basket !!!!!

Actually I guess I'm preachin to the choir on this one, right?:D

But, man, I just had to say something, because that was how Tim's reading
on that tune hit me, too.

is a task master. But,,I love it. So......

On a lighter note...humor wise....you know what the great Frank Wess sais about the clarinet??
" It was invented by five guys who never met!! ".......LOL.  :sign5:

That's funny.

[I heard that the clarinet was formed by combining two instruments, way way a long time ago. The fact that it does 12ths instead of octaves kinda supports that theory/, maybe fact.]

Tryptykon- IT'S BEEN FUN TOO. You know how much I enjoy and adore Rachel. She and I go back, and have such a great energy. You know when she was with Wayne Shorter....Wayne used to drive her to her aerobics classes. Ana Maria, loved Rachel Z'...
There's such a deep involvment within and between our notes and tones. And lives.Thru-more performance- playing-writing and travel I can enhance and keep the amount of teaching I do fresh.By this I mean, by being on the bandstand with Rachel Z or Bob Weir, or Scott Lee and Bill Goodwin, I can keep my edge sharp and ready. My learning is in spin as well. There's no substitute for it. My time...is spent teaching and playing...at very serious levels. I thank god that I can do this- it makes me happy. There's a BIG difference in "doing it" and "talking about it". To play professionally, have dealings with manufacturers, major league players, teach, and continue my studys with teachers' like Charlie Banacos, and have endorsement agreements with manufacturers, plus give seminars world wide etc etc. It's a beautiful thing.

I keep on though...
I'm trying, to bring some folks to this club.
It's not easy at all. Media is a tough road. LOL.
Think how much fire could be created if I brought in Cindy Blackman-as a guest with this band as an event? Or Jeff Coffin? Who BTW woulda flew himself in for it. BUT- management/biz stuff within the clubs booking blocks the door. Ugh@!#$ Oh well- so far so good. Its going cool.

Today, I spoke to CARL GRUBBS, the great sax player you might remember from the Phily band- THE GRUBBS BROTHERS. He's Tranes cousin.
Guys like Carl or Bootsie, Sid Simmons are my Philly old days roots. Not to mention all those 6 NIGHT a week gigs with Don Patterson- at Gerts on South St. < which now is a drive up rib joint   > I DO MISS THAT ERA.:(
Carl and I jammed at Cape May Jazz back in November. And he sounds beautiful on alto. I always dug his playing....we spoke of a lot, he's in the Wash DC area these days. GREAT HUMAN BEING.
I'd love to bring him up to play. Its guys like that that KNOW how to deal in a club and HOLD the audience by their ears.

Though...In the long run.... I reflect on my gratitude, to realize how lucky I am to have had exposure to music and the music life, regardless of the perceived level of success. To have contacted the spiritual and social world of playing and listening to music is an amazing thing. To realize this is the most vital element.

I hope you all during the holidays, are able to savor and cherish your relationships with music, the instrument you play, and all the wonderful people that are involved.

Happy Holidays.:)

Tim you have the *right* mindset, and because of that, you will have the
longevity of a Yusef Lateef, John Laporta, or Charlie Mariano.

Beautifully stated, as usual, and surely an inspiration to anyone that is in
this music for the right reasons(the MUSIC, itself)

Merry Christmas to you and your crew !:santa:

Words are not adequate to describe this performance!!! I've been fortunate enough to see & more importanly hear this collection of amazing musicians several times now. EVERY performance is as unique and diverse as the previous one and the next one. Perhaps Tim, Rachael, Scott and Bobby should use my tag line as a name for their group: "Always and Never the Same!!!!" I'm still trying to comprehend how 4 people can play 2 distinctly different melodies simultaneously and still make it sound as if it's one? Crowd reaction from a full-house(ask anyone who was there): A VERY LENGTHY STANDING OVATION!!! Mind-blowing musicianship Tim, nothing short of genius!!!

At some point, I will use that tag line-and you know what beverage you'll be receiving as a gift for the idea:D

The tune " brass" is refering to fwiw - was Herbie Manns tune " Passing Thru" . I heard Fathead Newman play it @ Cape May Jazz Festival in November. Somehow, the melody just kept in my head, next thing I know I'm humming the tune. So - I got Fathead to fax me the " lead sheet" and it just became one of my fav ballads. Herbie wrote the tune a few months before he passed and the feel of the tune is just beautiful.
Interesting point....I spoke to David Fathead Newman A LOT about Herbie Mann cuz' Herbie was always positive and very nice to me. Eg- he really wanted to record my jazz bassoon stuff, but got so ill with cancer that one day he called and was really upset that he couldn't handle it. He WAS interested in the music of people for sure. BTW- Herbie KEPT a band on salery, weather working or not, kept the guys taxes straight, and recorded the guys he hired as to help them keep on going. EG- the great Miroslav Vitous record w/ Joe Henderson and John Mcl..." Mountain In The Clouds" was ALL dealt with biz-wise by Herbie Mann. ( On EMBRYO recods in 70s, a division of ATLANTIC records ) These kinda guys DO NOT exist today, he took care of biz and when the music called for it - made hits- and when he could did stuff with guys like Phil Woods etc. Herbie WAS very cool IMHO.

Anyhow- Thursday WAS a unique night.
And Bob Weirs suggestion about the Beatles tune on bassoon was what brought the house down IMHO !!! ( I PLAYED " TOMMOROW NEVER kNOWS " ')

THANKS TO ALL WHO WERE THERE- MUSIC IS A POWERFUL THING:) :)
