I just bought a Gold Plated Rev D alto off ebay. It was certainly a lot more than some of the laq Rev Ds over the past few months so I don't think I got a deal (no idea of the pad condition so I just assumed it'll need a repad) as I paid $1823 plus shipping. But I was prepared to go up to $2K as it looked to be in good shape. Not to mention it looked to be engraved by the exact same cat who did my gold plated rev D tenor!

Anyhow, now when my cuz decides to reposses his MkVI alto back from me for his son (who is now in Jr High band), I'll won't be cryin'!

Here's the link in case anyone wants to see my new girl!

I was negotiating with that seller and could've bought it for $1,500. I got a little spooked by the neck opening section that'd been removed and resoldered. Looked like they shot it with some really yellow lacquer. Probably nothing that couldn't be cleaned up pretty easily. Will be very curious to get an evaluation once it's in a sax person's hands.

I looked at that Ebay sax as well & if it sounds as good as it looks you got a good deal. SML saxes are only going to go up in value as they are rare and gold plated ones are very rare.:)

I actually seen this horn. I could of had it for less than $1500.00.
The repair was done incorrectly. Whoever did the work thought the original design was damaged. It does not seal completely in the tenon area due to the nature of repair. It has an older repad that by using a thicker pad than originals, all of the keys had to be bent to get them sealed. All of the great dynamics were not present and definately not as good as all other SML altos I've played so far.
