View Full Version : Lost text of private message

I just wrote a rather lengthy private message to another forum member. Before I sent the message, I wanted to look into my "Sent Items" folder for some information to include in my current message. When I backed into the private message to finish and send, the text had disappeared completely. The recipients name was still there, as well as the message title, but no text. I was, to say the least, quite "miffed" (and I've cleaned that up a lot.)

That's by design. Anytime you navigate away from a post, you will lose your text. As frustrating as that must have been, I'm surprised this is the first time it has happened to you.

Cure. Don't navigate away to find that info. Open another browser window and get the info that way.

Or, copy the text, and then paste it back when you go back to the message page.

Dave;
I've also lost PM's due to a loss of internet connection. (Yeah, I'm on dialup. :x When you live two weeks away from everywhere it's about your only choice) I found it much safer to compose long messages in wordpad and copy and paste them into the PM box. That way it's still on your wordpad if Murphy's Law strikes! ;)

I gotta learn to type faster! :D

Me too. Anytime I have to leave an unposted post I copy it. Same if it's really long, I copy it, just in case I've lost internet connection.

Thanks to everybody who responded. I think I know the drill, now.

Dentist? Drill? Ha! I got the joke! First one!

Anyhow, I had the amusing problem of the power going out on me today when I was doing stuff on this Forum. Nothing could save me from that -- and I've occasionally hit the wrong button in my browser or on the page and it's wiped out my message.

So, summary:
* Make sure the "remember me" box is checked when you log in.
* Don't bother ever logging out, unless you're sharing someone else's computer.
* Type long missives in a different text editor and copy and past the result on the Forum. Heck, save it, if it's really long.
