just been trying out a Martin Commitee Tenor, made in 1942 (dont know if this makes it a I or II).
really liked the tone, but havnt really played many tenors to compare it to.
the one i played was in great condition and was tagged at £1200 (about $2000).
does anyone have an opinion on these, and what price they normally go for?

THe designation of a COmmII tenor is that it should have a roaring Lion with a Crown engraving. It should also have Martin Committee stamped on the back, the Committe I doesn't have this stamp and has the Skyline and searchlights engraving. The serial number is correct too. This should be a killer tenor, I have an alto of this make here which is a knock out too.

thanks for the link The Martin. thats a great site, a real labour of love by the look of it.
mine's definately a Commitee II, and has a beutiful tone. the estimated price guide on the site says this normally goes for $1000US, mine is up for equivalant of about $2000.
is this overpriced ?
it's in very good condition, and being in the UK may explain the price increase.

The "price-estimates" on my sites are:
- Private sales (Shops are more expensive)
- Good playing condition
- USA prices  Most of my readers are from the US of A
In Europe you have to pay from 2100 up to 2500 euro for one in a shop.

I have a Comm II tenor, goldplate. It is an incredibly versatile and powerful horn. I had the matching alto, which Bootman is the proud owner of now.(how's that horn acclimated down under Richard?) The Comm II tenor in fine playing condition is definately worth the asking price. Get it now before the word really gets out and the price of these tenors get up in the stratosphere. If I was only allowed one tenor,or alto for that matter it would be the Martin Comm II!

got mine the other day and am very happy with it. the tone has a great edge to it, kind of buzzy, with real character.
thomas, what mouthpiece do you use ?

I switch-depending on gig/venue between an RPC .110 and a Link STM 7*.......the horn sounds great with either, just different with each

i'm using a link 6*.
as its my first tenor (from alto) i'm having to alter my embouchure slightly, but i feel a lot more comfortable with the range on tenor. it's a great horn, the sounds got real character.
i cant see myself ever really needing to upgrade from it, or not for a very long time at least.
