The American heldentenor James King died on November 20th at the age of 80. He is perhaps best remembered for his role as Siegmund in Die Walküre from the famous 1960s Vienna Philharmonic/Georg Solti recording of Wagner's Ring cycle. He also gave a great performance as Bacchus in the Metropolitan Opera telecast of Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos when he was well into his 60s.
