Which IYHO is the easiest Charlie Parker omnibook song to learn and why?Which ones in the book can you play exactly like it's written note for note? I use transcribe software and listen to the recordings of the tune along with the book. Whoever transcribed it did a darn good job before the invention of many of the transcribing gadgets were invented. Please include in your answer exactly how long did it take you to learn the tune. Also, if you know confirmation, how long did it take you to learn it?...thanx in advance.
hy
the easiest "moose the mooche"
i can play exactly this one and confirmation us well.
i spend one week studying confirmation to play it exactly in tempo.
Jamey Aebersold did the transcriptions. There have been tape players around for decades that can slow down tempo without changing pitch. Andrew White used one to transcibe all those Coltrane solos. Don't know if Aebersold used one but I wouldn't rule it out.
Many of the tunes are easy to learn. ie- Yardbird Suite, Blues for Alice, Anthropology, Scrapple..., etc. I never bothered to learn the solos up to tempo. That's not why I bought the book. I play through the solos slowly from time to time just to study the types of licks Parker liked to play. Some licks I memorize and use in various keys, others I just skip over. (until, maybe next time I read through it)
I don't see much point to learning the whole solo. Unless you play lead alto or bari with Supersax, you'll never play it anywhere. I find the book much for valuable for analyzing Parker's harmonic approach and adapting those ideas to my own playing.
that's another true about liks and expressions you would like to keep to yourself.
i'm a little bit maniac about studies and solos, to much obssesive, that's the reazon that i like to play solos in tempo and timing, but one of the biggest reasons is tecnic and the smothness you feel playing it on tempo, you feel like some relax on your fast playing, don't know, but something like you have time for everything.
i'm still playing it, it's just like one friend used to say, less is more.

Riff -
I have never in my life seen a tape player that can change the tempo of a recording without changing the pitch, and I have seen a lot of tape players. What brand was that? and how does it work?
The machines were never commercially available. Strictly industrial use from what I understand. And very expensive. They used rotating heads similar to VCRs. Beyond that I don't know much about the technology.
I heard this from one of my teachers at Berklee in the early '70s.
