View Full Version : Why is everything being moved?

It seems that someone with mod powers keeps moving many, many posts to the "appropriate" section on SOTW.

It makes the opening pages looked cluttered, as well as some posts possibly losing context, such as a post about how to play palm key notes which was posted in the soprano section, and was moved to the "Teaching section". Perhaps there was some technique that would have been particular to soprano, as opposed to a more "generic" forum.

Just a little annoyed by this latest series of actions...thanks.

RSVP'ing before the people moving stuff do, because they've been doing a LOT of work.

* We created a new Beginner's area because we had something like 50 pages of threads in the "general discussion" area. This makes life easier on the Beginners.

* We are moving stuff that doesn't belong where it is into the appropriat places. If you post a topic like, say, "What's the best Wind Controller?" in Misc. Sax Discussion, we're gonna (eventually) move it to the Electronic Music area.

We've got dozens of areas. Post in an appropriate area.

* I've been experimenting in the SML area with another idea our staff has come up with:

Create some FAQ's for, well, FAQ's and put 'em in one area where they're easily accessible. This is to cut down on the 150 posts that ask the same question (an occurrance a lot of members complain about).
Combine threads that ask the same question.
Create subfora for popular genres of topics. Heck, I found a half dozen "how much is my horn worth" threads when searching all of one page of threads. That kind of begs the point of creating a subforum that's specifically there for you to ask about the value of your horn and have other SMLunatics that have pricelists in their head to give you an answer.

All this is to make life easier. When a casual viewer comes here, he may want to find a specifc genre and we don't want to make you have to search through 500 posts to find the topic you want. The search engine is GREAT for specific, not so good for general.

We've worked hard to COMBINE dead-ish topics to reduce the number of Forum areas, but because we want to be all things sax to all people, a topic that you might not have much interest in might be of GREAT interest to other folks.

If you have a suggestion for merging some topic areas, post in http://www.saxontheweb.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1548 and we'll consider it.

You do have a point regarding the Soprano altissimo, and I'll mention it.
