A cheaper student model Conn, nothing like the qualioty of the old Conn saxes. It is worth about $400 to $600 here in Australia. You woul d be better of with a YAS-23.

Ok I'd prefer a Yamaha myself but at the moment there isn't anything going on Ebay and I'm saving for a serious Tenor, and an Alto is really only to add something cheap to the collection so I can start having some fun on the Alto, but I may just keep my eyes open for something else, this one is looking expensive now u've given me an idea of their worth ;-)

Thanks

One of the worst manufactured models of perhaps 200 I have met. Seriously non-level tone holes, excrutiating alignment of key cups with tone holes, a neck screw designed not to clamp the neck, tangled mechanism a nuisance to work on, .....

Whoever made it should be ashamed. Most Taiwanese models are better.

I have a Conn 20M alto that I bought without a lot of research. I think it plays well and has a nice sound. Recently found that it compared favorably with sound playing mechanics to the Yamaha YAS23. They Conns tend not to sell for as much as the Yamahas on ebay because Yamaha has greater name recognition these days. So, if you can get one at a good price, I think it's a good start. You will probably want a better horn down the road, but for a beginner, I think this one does the job nicely.

Your Conn must then be unbelievably different from the many 20Ms I have worked on and played.

I went nosing through what stock I have hiding in my warehouse the other day and I have a YAS-25 that's been in stock a while I might bite the bullet and head down that track ;-)
My Tenor will just have to wait a bit longer
