There seems to be a number of questions regarding SML stencils.
a) SML Stencils are EXACTLY the same as the horn they were stenciled from, except for the engraving on the bell. In other words, if you had a Vedette with a serial number of 10,xxx, it'd be the same as a Rev. D with a serial number of 10,xxx.
b) The King Marigaux was stenciled from the Gold Medal (version II), not the Rev. D or any earlier horn. Some late models do have altissimo F# keys, whereas very few SML-labeled models do.
c) No, I do not have a complete list of SML stencils and some stencil names were used on several makers' horns (the Reynolds Contempra, for instance), so just saying go get a $stencil_name is fruitless.
d) The alleged Santy Runyon Stencil has recently been revealed to be a Beaugnier horn.
e) It is always possible that the SML stencils were made with poorer quality control or materials, but there is no evidence to support this.
f) As mentioned in the Lexicon, the King Lemaire is a stencil of the Amati Classic Super. It is not an SML.
g) You can see a partial list of known SML stencils at http://www.saxpics.com/sml/sml_stencils.htm
h) The Heimer and Parker Horns may have been made with SML tooling, but they are not SML-made and are considered to be low-quality student instruments.
i) The SML A400 and T400 are Asian-made horns, not SML-made, and have no resemblence of any kind to any extant SML-made horn. See the Lexicon for more information.
