Anyone ever use Stein on Vine for any sax repairs? How about Horn Connection?

I read the glowing reviews of Scimonetti but I'm looking for something closer to home.

I've used Manny at Horn Connection for years and I'd recommend him. He has his own definite opinions about who makes good & bad horns and seems to prefer vintage saxes to modern ones. One possible drawback, which might be a big issue for some, is that I don't think he actually plays the horns. He does very good repair work on a mechanical basis, but doesn't have the perspective of a player (as fas as I know). I had him do an overhaul on my Selmer VI alto and was very happy with his work. He has done work for major L.A. players over the years.
I'm not familiar with repair work at Stein on Vine.
Two other people to consider are Rheuben Allan in North Hollywood, or the repair guy used by Baxter Northup in Sherman Oaks.

Hey MarcoS, Jimmy Scimonetti here.

I hope you get the chance to visit us soon...make the pilgramage to "Sax Mecca"! We're 1 hour to 45 minutes north of the SF Valley. Basically, we stock every sax in production (along with a ton of vintage saxophones), EVERY reed, accessories & books you've never even seen, and more mouthpieces than you could try in 3 days.

As for entrusting your sax to techs who are a little clsoer to home, you're in good hands with Rueben Allen, Baxter, or Horn Improvement in Mission Viejo (949) 455-4163.

If you're looking for good dent work, Jose at Cambrass in Valencia is absolutely amazing!

I've heard nothing but great things about the Horn Connection, but I've never actually played on their overhauls. They do, however, boast quite an impressive client list. Just remember...there's more bad choices than there are good ones! Good luck, and please give me a call if you have any questions!

I sent my flute to Stein on Vien, and was less than satisfied with the results.

I send my horns to Rheuben Allen, he does a spectacular job! He works on the second floor of the Musicians Union across the street from Stein on Vine.

Another vote for Rheuben Allen-
818-985-9846 Leave a message and wait for the call back. He's usually fairly busy (there's a reason for this!) but always seemed to find time.

Has he moved from the little warehouse shop?
