Last night I went to a local jazz jam place and my teacher and some other of his more advanced students were there. I brought my horn of course, but I didnt expect to play. Earlier that day he had made me teach myself the C and G blues scales. He called me up on stage to do Bb blues. Then he called up the other 2 students separately and then all of us for a jam. Playing in front of people and hearing them shout and scream after I was done blowing was the best feeling in the world.
My teacher spoke with me as the place was closing down and now I am totally devoted to my ax. Plan on seeing me in New Orleans in the next few years, cause I love jazz, and I have a feeling that jazz loves me too. 8)

way to go!
I totally agree. I had a similar moment in high school. My freshman year, I had this jazz solo that was went off absolutely beautifully! It was the first time I really made an inspiring statement with my horn (I'm a native tenor player too, by the way, but I play alto now for school). You know... it was one of those moments where you really surprise yourself. After we played our set, I went in the green room and about 30 of my friends stood up and cheered for me like crazy! My friends were all coming up and saying it was amazing, and the girls all ran up to hug me... haha, that's when I KNEW that I was going to be a musician, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer...

Yea, we all have moments like that. It's especially great when you take a whole summer, talk to nobody, and just practice and shed and get to know that horn (what I did last summer). So in the fall everybody's like WHOA! 8)

I did that this summer an when marching band started up a few weeks ago all my friends freaked out cuz i was the best tenor player(i am the youngest tenor player and i have been playing for the shortest amount of time) and yeah it's great to know that you blew out an awesome solo 8)

Tenorsaxer,
Did you ever make it to New Orleans?
My teacher spoke with me as the place was closing down...
Small wonder. :D

'The Greatest Feeling'
It's why we do it. The money's nice, too, but the rush is everything. Particularly at my stage of life, I love to watch people as they think 'What's this old bird gonna do?'. Then I show them.
