ratpackaudio is selling EV RE20s on and off ebay at an aggressively low price. But then they coyly point out that the EV 309A shock mount is also available for an additional 97.00. Making me wonder, what is this shock mount? Are the other vendors including it -- thereby accounting for the price discrepancy? Do I need it? What other accessories do you need with a classy mic like the RE20 that you don't need with a trashy old "plug and go" SM58 ?

Morgan,
I have a PL-20 that I use when performing. I normally use a black folding small boom mike stand. The Mike clamp is a EV #320 1" mike clamp ($27). The clamp should be included in the purchase price of the mike.
I believe that the shock mount that they are offering is for broadcast use. Re-20's are used in just about all radio stations for voice-overs. I would think that a shock mount is unneccessary for your use.
The RE-20's & PL-20's are expensive compared to other live performance mikes but are wonderful for accurate sound reproduction. It has proven to be an important investment in my sound. Blowing a Bari into one of these should be a blast.
