The times I have been to Dominic's two last physical locations (Magnolia (part of Gloucester), Massachusetts and now Salem, Massachusetts), there have been at most 3 people there. It's not like there is a factory. Dominic buys the DC Pro horns the same place as many other customers of the better Taiwanese sax makers, including Cannonball and now Selmer. The two Taiwanese makers that I know of that lay down their own brass have gotten to be very good at making instruments. They can build you pretty much what you want now, including right up to Selmer Paris quality.

I've played many horns (and bought a few) at Dominics. Dominic is always gracious and I pay the web eBay price after I pick one. I'll be over for one of the sopraninos soon. From the box from Taiwan, I pick out the shipping corks and make sure the package is complete. The black DC Pro II high G two-neck soprano I have now is a good instrument. It is not an SIII, but it has much higher bang for the buck. The intonation is good (at best), the tone is good to very good. The build quality was so-so. I had to replace quite a few very poor-quality spacing corks. The metal quality is so-so. They can be hard to work on due to soft alloys.

Overall, I'm quite happy with it, and will be until I can justify the $ for an SIII.

I would clarify that Selmer USA is importing horns not Selmer Paris. Big difference in quality and performance between their products.

Having played every tenor Dominic had in house one afternoon, I have to say the following.

Intonation is good or bad depending on which horn you pick up. Very inconsistent, even over the octave.

Overall tone quality is thin.

Construction is sketchy. Played one horn where the low C would not speak even after the "technician" fixed it.

My opinion? Student model Selmers are better.

As far as coming from the same factory as the Selmer La Voix and the Cannonball. There is no way. The construction alone would tell you that. I own a Cannonball and it's a solidly constructed horn with good intonation and a robust sound. Just because a horn comes from Taiwan doesn't mean they all come from the same factory.

Your money could go alot further on another taiwanese horn.

What other taiwanese horns are you reffering to amygcb?

I wouldn't buy fake dog poop from Dominic.

Er.... I mean, one of his horns.
