View Full Version : That Mysterious "Santy Runyon Model"
This is gonna be the first real change that I've made for the SML model chart in years.
Way back in 1999/2000 (http://www.saxpics.com/SOTW_Archive/sml/sml/boardset-saxjazz-boardid-sml-thread-7-spec-3828999.html) on the old eesites "saxjazz" forum, a lady named Greta who had a horn labeled "Santy Runyon" and Paul Coats later said, in an article (see the link), that the horn was one of the rare 150-or-so horns stenciled for Santy Runyon by SML.

There's a french vito at my local Sam Ash of a slightly later vintage. I need to go and check it out.
Very cool find.
I don't think there is any doubt that the maker of this alto also made the two tenors I have examined. (Actually, I may be both of the "gentlemen" that Pete said sent tenor photos, as I sent photos a year apart of two different tenors. As for the "gentlemen" part, I think Pete grades on the curve. ;) )
Pete, will you have opportunity to publish the photos of the other alto marked Beaugnier?
I've literally got so many projects that I haven't started any of 'em.
What I think I'm gonna do in the next two months is:
a) Upgrade all my webpages to have my new donation info and link to my calendar.
b) Upload all my year-and-1/2 of pictures (I have to sort them, first).
c) Install a new hard drive in 'puter (I got enough donations on my website over the past year to get a new computer motherboard, processor, memory and two hard drives).
d) Send Mark another e-mail about FTP problems (sorry, Mark).
So, they'll all eventually be up, but won't be as pretty.
Next year? I dunno. I've got a couple "issues" I have to take care of, first (family stuff that may take a considerable amount of time, starting next month), but I really want to get my "ultimate sax sax value guide" (not a misprint) written.
If you're Mr. P, you sent me pics of one of those Runyon tenors. The other was an eBay special, if I remember correctly.

If anyone's interested, there's an identical sax on ebay right now, marked "Oxford made by Pierret" or something very similar: item # 7373224067. It's also $51.01, with 11 hours left on the clock...
