Why oh why am I having to re log-in everytime that I post? Before today it was just the first-time post that I'd have to re log in after, then everytime after that it was cool[That wasn't right, but tolerable]. Today I've had to log in three times, so far, once after each post. :x
Getting to be a pain in the ****.

What browser are you using? Do you select the 'Log Me In Automatically' checkbox when you log in? Have you cleared the cookie cache lately? Have changed your browser security settings lately?

I'm using MSN9[built on IE], got dialup, have done the cookie/security/Log me in auto, save password tango before, all to know avail. I've had to re log in 1/2 dozen times today and all I'm getting/developing is a pee poor attitude, best that I stop right now.
Thanks anyhow.
The calendar is beautiful, btw[I ordered one, which makes me more :x with this re logging in crap.].
Make it 10 calendars and I'll fix it :).
Kidding!
50.
Kidding again!
I'll send you an e-mail later today.

What is so freaking irritating about this relogging in crap is that I loose the "new posts" icons and have to thumb through entire threads to get to the new posts. grrr

What about the remember me Box i have to tick it every time i log in or i have the same problem:cry:
Lemme repost what I e-mailed JBC:
* Test your account on another computer. If it works, you know it's your computer. If you don't have access to another computer, e-mail me and I'll reset your password and try it myself.
* Try a different browser. Download Firefox at www.mozilla.org if you have dial-up and want a small download.
* Make sure you're not running behind a firewall. Remember that Windows XP has one built in. I have occasional problems at work with our corporate firewall.
Y'know you could even try to register and logon to another vBulletin forum. Try the Forums at www.vbulletin.com.

I was going to let Pete handle this, since that's what we pay him to do  , but since this is the kind of thing I handle on a daily basis, albeit on real (mainframe) computers, I'll take a shot.
jbc - the first thing we always have to ask is: what's the last thing that changed before you started havening this problem?
Did you install anti-virus or anti-spyware software recently, or change any of your settings in the internet options via the control panel?
The reason I ask is that the logon is basically controlled by a cookie on your pc. Something would have had to have changed with the way your pc is handling cookies for this problem to be occurring.

JazzBluesCat, I use MSN 9.1 (if you have any older version you should update for free at microsoft.com) and I just checked the Internet applet in the Control Panel. My security settings are set for custom and not a higher level of security. I don't seem to have the problems that you report.
What is your anti-virus software? Is it set to not allow cookies. If so, you would also have problems logging on to other cookie based web sites such as eBay.
If you give Pete your password and it the same one you use for everything else (a common rookie mistake) change your password to something else just to be extra cautious. Before I became part of the staff I gave Pete my password, I trust him, and he was able to determine that the problem was not reproducable from his side. You can do the same test on another computer, perhaps a friends to determine if it is your computer. But I'm guessing that it is your computer because we are not getting reports from other users.
I know this is frustrating, but we can try to help you figure out what's going on.
Actually, I changed Gandalfe's password and I now post as him :).

Somtimes (once a month) this happens to me too. I just reboot my computer and that usually solves the issue. :)
If not, I check security, cookies and all that lovely stuff that was mentioned.
Good Luck. :)

I'll try to get to a friend's computer this weekend.[However, she's so slack that she might not have internet access at the moment.] Anyhow, I'll try that first. I'll see about updating MSN9 also. thanks
I can say that I don't have this problem with any other board, one of which I know is a vBulletin. Any bets on whether I have to relog after trying to post this? tsk

FWIW, had to log in for the previous post.
This is real fun.

It appears that the relogging problem has ironed itself out. Also, I don't logout and it[the board, whatever] hasn't been logging me out on it's own accord. [So when I come back I don't have to log in.]
I'm 'bout as happy as a pig in cool mud in the summer.:)

Yeah, my problems have mysteriously disappeared as well.
What's the common denominator here?
Install any Windows Updates recently? AV/Anti-Spyware? Firewall?
Any of those can either help or hurt. Heck, I couldn't FTP to my own website after a Security fix.

Nope. Odd, eh? I'm carrying on as usual; clearing cookies and temp files and running AVG antivirus every couple of days, Microsoft AntiSpyware, Spybot and Ad-aware 6.

I installed a new Windows XP security update about 2 weeks ago. Ever since, all my auto log-ins seem to drop every 2 or 3 days. Even my e-mail drop down of login names disappears. I also run Spybot and Ad-Aware, but there doesn't seem to be any correlation there. I'm not technical enough to prove this, but I suspect that Microsoft has added some new "protection" feature that is eating the cookies every so often.
Let's all blame Gandalfe and be done with it. I vote for a title change for him: official SOTWF scapegoat. (Bill, of course, is "Officially Kenny G".)

Whenever I clear cookies and temp files I get logged out here at SOTW[I have to log in.].
Anybody want to venture some possible explanations? Hmmm? I'm totally ignorant and will believe almost anything.:)

When you clear your cookies, you need to login to get a new one to tell your browser you're back. This is by design.
Repeated for truth.
Your login information is in your cookie.

I thought clearing cookies & temp files was a good thing. Evidently I was mistaken. Huh.
Thanks.

Well, as I understand it and depending on the security settings for your browser, you can get cookies from sites you visit that do some nasty things. There's typically no opt-out for these thangs. But I think that's relatively rare. I clean out my internet files including cookies about once a month just to be on the safe side.

Ah so, have to take the good with the bad. I can hang with that.
Thanks.
Often when I try to post a thread, I get a "You do not have permission..." error and am asked to log on. Then when I log on, my typed thread is gone. Annoying. It just happened now for example.
