I have the opportunity to get a 6M from 1957 for a reasonable price. I'm just wondering if this is a good horn. I know they are considered pro and pretty good, but I find most reviews talk mainly about the VIII models and pre-VIII. Is there anything I should know about this horn?
It does not have a microtuner and has a clear lacquer with nickel plated keys.
Hi,
I have a 6M alto from the 50s. It is not as well made as the earlier 6Ms (with the rolled tone holes), but it sounds good. I think it's still a nice horn and the action feels good. I think these were the last batch of decent Conn Ms, later on they really got cheap, with not a good sound.
My advice is you should try it, if you like it do NOT pay the same price as a 30s/40s 6M, it is not worth as much. Check out ebay for current prices.

I've got a 6M of the same vintage, I think MMM's advice is right on the nose.
