At the moment it's this weird mclean & payne "supersax" mark X. That wasn't a joke. It's fun. A selmer C** and Daniel's 2.5 reed. Rico royal alternatively.

What I got is a collection of mediocre alto and tenor horns. And a conn c mel. The real money will go into the bari, when that time comes.

Currently for jazz in clubs and similiar venues:
Keilwerth SX90 alto, Morgan 8M, Vandoren ZZ #3.5, Rovner MarkIII

Depending on mood, I might use the Lakey 6*3 instead of the Morgan.

For anything that would cause hearing damage: metal custom high baffle piece from Jo Gerber with .110 tip opening, ZZ #3.5 reeds. EarTech ear plugs.

SBA tenor only. mpc choice depends on genre.
funk/ska/deathmetal/circus music = DGSKRB, Fibracell soft
R&R = Sugal metal, DC Superial 3
R&B = Berg scoop/2M, DC Superial 3
Jazz / progressive = newer Meyer HR, DC Superial 3
I find this order to reflect best to least for altissimo performance, and the opposite for multiphonics. :dazed:
although primarily I've been a metal mpc user, lately, I'm getting the most enjoyment from playing the HR Meyer, because it's the easiest for a variety of articulations and attacks.

Mark VI tenor, Dukoff D7, Rico 3 1/2
Selmer USA alto, Dukoff D7, Rico 3 1/2.
I can get a great altissimo on my Buescher C-Melody with my tenor Dukoff but I have to cram the mouthpiece all the way on and use a tuner to get the mouthpiece in the right place; after that watch out!
Do the plasticover reeds help? I've been wanting to try those.

I get great altissimo with my beechler btw...I could go for a while, but have to stop because of the pain it puts me through...heh. I play for about 7 hours strait with no breaks, and it hurts like mad.

Took me a while to get up to those strengths, especially on alto... as my embouchure developed, more and more of my reeds began to feel too soft, so I moved up in strength gradually. I find altissimo to be more facilitated by a harder setup, be it harder reed, more open piece, or both. But you definitely need some serious chops to get those notes out on those setups!

Havn't real settled on reeds since I started playing again, so far I think every thing I have tried s^&ks!

Don't do much Alto or sop so didn't investigate good mpcs, but the Ricos play much better than I thought a $11 piec would play.

Altissimo, not too good. I feel my time is better spent on practicing other things.

1923 Conn New Wonder Alto, Link STM 6*, Rico Royal 3 french cut reeds
-Armstrong Student model as a backup. It's served me well and has held up through 4 years of hellish weather in marching band.

Bestler Soprano, Link STM 7*, Lavoz MH reeds, Picked the horn up for under $100. Once I adjusted all of the keys, and put on a decent mouthpiece, the thing out blows a SA80II soprano I once played. A big bang for the buck if you know a little bit on key adjustments.

I recently purchased an old 1935 Buescher made Bundy. Nice dark honey laquer finish on the horn and keys. Fantastic dark sounding horn. Sounds and plays very similiarly to my friends old Buescher 400. Dark, responsive, and easy blowing. I didn't know that it was possible for any Bundy to play this well. I'm using a new Otto Link (of course) 8* New York mouthpiece with Rico Royal 2 1/2 reeds. Great combo and a great horn.
