Scoops Practice

Whats a good way to practice scoops. I notice on my playing thats they are all generally "rough" and that some notes sound better than others (middle C sounds good, D is really hard, and upper A sounds bad and cheesy). What do you recommend?

First you must have a correct embouchure. Paul Coats has some great articles on the SOTW main page about that. Then and only then, simply draw the jaw the desired amount and bring it back up to attain the scoop. You must drop the jaw right before you begin the tone, then return it to the normal position.
