I just sent my payment over to Dave at Junkdude for the 67R that's going to come in Tuesday next week (*crosses fingers*). So hopefully, the Tuesday after, it will arrive at my door. Once I get it and have a try at it, I'll post my reviews on it as well :)
Can't wait!

i too woll be taking the plunge sometime in the next few weeks...question?? why did you go for the 67R over the 66R..what kind of music do yoy play? in a r&b/funk/rock player...is this a good horn for this??

The 67R is an alto, and the 66R is a tenor.

Morry is correct.. the 67R is indeed the alto.
I was practically a heartbeat away from buying a 82z from my local music store this week. However, I was really curious at the P. Mauriat.... and I like how many people are saying it has a darker sound which I like.... So i figured all I would lose at most is the shipping so I ordered a 67R.
I'll see how it goes with the alto, if all goes well... I'll get it's larger brother, 66R as well

just a quick update since the P. forum area seems to be quite empty these days. Don't want Saxpics to start thinking we don't deserve our own space anymore :) (*/ducks - please dont ban me*)
The one 67R that Dave has ordered still hasn't come in from P Mauriat yet (it's about 1 wk late now, hopefully nothing bad has happened). ahhh... I hate waiting :)

I think demand has just outpaced the supply. That's partly due to good reviews on places like this forum.

That's great news david. Make sure you post your reviews and thoughts when you get back :) How long is the cruise?
I gave Dave a call and it should arrive tommorrow at his shop :) Since it'll be his first 67R he will have in... he'll need to take some pics of it for his site and then give it the old adjustment routine. Hopefully he'll have it shipped on Saturday!
I live in Wisconsin...where is Melts Music located? I don't see a web site for them.

i recieved my tenor 66r on friday morning (skiping work so I could pick it up at ups, didnt want to chase the truck around town to get my package)...had a short breakin' it in practice session, then 3 consecutive gigs that weekend...
-the horn is very nice ...sounds great with a fullness and richness of the tenor sound...and pleanty of edge when needed...also looks way cool...
the mouthpiece took almost all of the cork until it was in tune..but that is fine...on saturday i had my tech go over it and he found a few small things, one being the neck was slightly out of position, possibly from the way it sits in the case..he had never seen this brand and was very suprised by the sound and price, although he is a selmer person and says he would never buy a horn other than selmer....but i could see it on his face that he was confused...how could this horn sound so good if it was not a selmer...poor guy!
-also, i mis-spoke about the dealer i purchased from...its melts music in Milwaulke
i look foward to really breaking in this horn and improving my chops...this is a lifetime horn for me!!

I think you'll find that it grows on you also!!! The only knock I can think of is that you won't get the generic Selmer tone out of it but I've play quite a few Mk 6s and the only horn on my wish I could have bought list is a Ref 54 that I played in Vegas awile back. The P seems to hold up over time also. Glad you joined the club!!! K

I still havent gotten it yet :( It was sent out on the 24th but has not come through. Dave shipped it via USPS and supposively it should've been here monday or tuesday. He's going to get the tracking for me and we'll see what happens.
argh... I hate waiting heh.
Hang in there man, it's worth the wait. Still really diggin mine. Having Selmer drilled into my head since I was a boy, I found myself wondering why I bought anything but a Selmer. At least one of the big four. But then I just close my eyes and listen to the PM and I know why. I hope you like yours.
I just came back from Melk Music (not Melts) in Milwaukee where I tried a P Mauriot 66 tenor. I was hoping to try the rolled tone hole model but they had only ordered in 1 of each and the other was sold( apparently to DavidAnthony411). I am now convinced that all the discussion on these saxes isn't just hype.
I was hoping to find a sax that sounds as good as my Buescher 290000 (which I love) but with keywork that fits my small hands better. The keywork was much better and felt Selmer-like (to the best of my memory - it has been a few years since I sold mine). The practice room was too live for a proper evaluation of the 66R sound, but I had my prized Buescher 290000 Aristocrat along for comparison. The P may actually have sounded better in the low end than my horn; dark, a bit spread and responsive. But the palm keys were not as full and had a certain harshness to them compared to my Crat. And while the intonation was OK it wasn't as spot-on as my Crat either.
This horn wasn't good enough for me to trial at home for a week, but I will be back when he gets the 66R in. I know there usually is variability within horns of the same model, so I think its quite possible I could find just what I'm looking for.

Just got back from Melk Music in Milwaukee here. (A very nice family owned business, I would recommend them) Tried out the 66R tenor with the rolled tone holes.
Normally I play a Ref 54 tenor and I was looking for a potential backup horn that doesn't cost as much. My initial impressions were good, the Mauriat seemed very well built, not quite as good as my Selmer but as good as I've seen from a non-big 4 horn. The sound was very nice and pleasant, unfortunately, I felt like the sound was too refined and it didn't seem alive enough for my tastes. It probably would make a very good classical horn, but I just didn't think it would work well for jazz. It played very easily, much easier than my ref 54--very even across the entire range The intonation was also very good. Overall I think my 54 edged out the Mauriat, but only by a little bit--certainly not by $2000!! :D
Overall a very nice horn for the money, definitely worth considering if someone is in the market for a new horn.

What do you mean when you say refined? At first, I thought you meant that its tone was complex and well-structured. Do you think that the tone is complex and well-structured?
Anyways, I plan to travel out to Barcone's Music in Kingston, NY to check out the 2006 67R. I'll let you all know my thoughts, and pros and cons about the horn. Who knows, I may be traveling home with the horn!

I would say the tone was complex. I'm not sure what you mean by well-structured, that seems like an odd way to describe a sound. As I've described it before, it seemed to lack some liveliness. It just didn't have some of the projection and bigness to the sound that I get with my ref 54. It was a nice sound, it just didn't jump out at me as much as I like.

I bet you would have liked the other model the 70c I think. There was a post with comparisons between the 3 different models and the 3rd model (not 66 or 66r). I seem to remember the 3rd model popped out and was livelier.

can you tell us what mpc are you using? that might be the difference here. I'm suprised you find it more classical as alot of others bought the horn for the opposite reason (jazz feel)
thanks!
Hey Daktion, what's up with yours? Did you get it yet?
I really like my nickel silver so far. It is very clear and full. Not many horns are bright for me as I play very dark for some reason. It responds very well throughout the entire horn. I would not describe mine as a complex sound. I imagine it is quite different than the other models you guys are trying. Whatever it is it works for me and I like it. Now that the honeymoon is over I think it's a great addition to your collection and well worth the money. It truly is a great sounding and solid horn. And it sure is purty!

 It's still not here. Apparently it got stuck in the customs. Dave said that he can't do anything unless it has been a month. (shipped on the 24th of October.) However, I gave Canada Post a call and found out that it actually crossed the border on the 30th.... which meant it took 6 days to go from Ohio to Canada.
I've been playing a yamaha 82z to pass time as I wait. But I'm really longing to try a P that you guys have been craving about. The 82z is a little too bright for my tastes... so I'm hoping the darker sound of a P will be the answer.

Ok guys
I just paid my customs fee and finally got a good look at the sax. Wow it's pretty haha. I'm at the office and I dont have a reed nearby so I couldnt try it out yet.... I'll just post my initial reactions to it.
First, just to refresh you all. I ordered an alto 67R. It comes in a different case than the bam style. It's rectanglar... has a nice boxy pocket on the top (imbedded into the case so it doesnt stick out). Overall the exterior impressions are very good... very nice and classy. Looking inside... I must say I really don't like the two seatbelts it has to hold the sax in place. I'm no case expert but is this neccessary? The right strap if used to securely hold the sax in place, it looks like it can bend a rod or two. Any one tried to go without the strap? I will definately be in the market for a new case if the strap is needed but it looks like it can actually damage the sax. However, I do like the extra compartment to hold accessories as I'm not a fan of putting things in the bell.
Ok on to the sax now. My 67r came with white pearls. It looks pretty good and the quality of it feels very nice. However, it still kind of bothers me that they advertised it (in the catalogue) with turqiose pearls so that's what I thought I would be getting. The overall finish is nice.... and the keys feel very responsive. I'll definately need to play it before I can post more reviews
The accessories are so-so. no neck strap, but it came with a cork grease, mpc with matching lig. I think i'll give the mpc a try tonite and see how it performs.

From my understanding they made some models with the turqoise green pearls and some with the white. I have Tim at Sax Alley finding me one with the colored pearls. I know quite a few people think they are tacky and ugly, so the variation is good to cater to different people. Hurry up and play it... I've been waiting for your review ever since you ordered it, lol. Glad the appearance is nice. I was hoping it would have shipped with a contoured case, myself. Maybe that's new for the 2006 models? Keep us updated.
Daktion, I hope you like it, after all of the waiting and anticipation. The case with my new tenor is of the contoured type. It has 2 velcro straps. I don't think they are needed unless you pick up the case when it's open. I might cut mine off. The only thing it does is hold the neck in it's place too. I will be getting another case because there is no storage. Although this case is nice. I haven't tried the stock mouthpiece for mine yet, maybe I'll try it tonight.
If someone would be willing to help a moron like me post pics, I have some on my desktop of my nickel silver tenor. How do I go about this?

My 66R was in a contoured zipper case that had a hard plastic outer shell and 2 velcro straps inside. I wouldn't trust that case for any use beside securing the sax in a closet. Too much flex in the outer shell. Great horn, crappy case.

on the case...i have the 66r tenor with the contoured case,,with the strapes that really dont do much. What I have found is that if you keep the neck in the case as designed in may cause a leak... its the way it sits against the top of the case...i had to slighly bend the neck pad back just a little to get the horn to sing again, so now i use my trusy "black Velvet" bag and store the neck in the bell..as far as the pearls, i received the mother of pearl and it looks way cool...a bonus because i thought that all came with white pearl..
-also...this horn continues to grow on me...have palyed 7 gigs so far and every time i work with this horn it gets better and better..partly because this is the break in period for me...i have also changed the way i breath for this horn and have been able to get a HUGE sound out of it!..not to mention that it still can whisper when needed...but alas, i like to play balls out most of the time...and the P. can cut it!
