Very recently, i began looking for a new saxophone. I had previously rented one, and it was, pardon my french, crap. So i began hunting for an intermediate or professional sax for a reasonable price. On the day of the return of the saxophone, i went to the music store, (which is quite a distance from my house :? ), and believe it or not, I found a brand new Yani A901 gold lacquered for $1650. I think the retail price was around $3500, and i tried it out. I'm not sure if i fell in love with the sax itself or the price, but i immeadiately bought it. Because i rented there for 4 years now, they gave me some more discounts too. The thing is though, i never really looked at the yanis. I was interested in getting a keilwerth EX90 intermediate sax, or a some selmer, but this was totally unexpected. But now that i've made this investment, i still have some questions about yanis. I heard many compelling arguments on both sides of the battle between selmer and yanis, but i had been a selmer loyalist until now. Well, thats it for my story. Not much of a post. Just kinda, umm sharing experiences. Yeah. Oh! 1st post too! How awesome.

Correcting a mistake, umm, i put the wrong model. It was a 991, not a 901.

If it is a 991 it is truly a bargain. They average $2400. 901's are $1600 everywhere. Good show...you did well!
I've had my 991 for just a little while and it is truly excellent. The best thing about yana's is that the intonation is spot-on from the factory almost every time  .

Sounds like a nice deal. If you've been renting for 4 years, though, they could afford to give you a great deal.
Yeah Jake congrats on an astounding deal. Retail price of a A991 is around 4300$ and the A901 is around 3500$. The best price on 991 alto I"ve seen is around 2100$ from Europe in the past 6 months. If you actually scored a 991. you really hit the best price i've seen if it is new and usually for that price you will get a 901.

Jake35: Congrats on coming over to Yanagisawa. I own four of them (SC901, SC902, S992, A992) and all are real players. After I bought the S992 (sight-unseen), I sold off my silver Selmer Serie III soprano. The Yana just did everything better than the Selmer - for me.
As for altos, I'd tested a bunch of different models and again went for the A992 sight unseen. That turned out to be a great choice - much more resonant than any of the other new top-four brands.
Good luck with yours. DAVE
