Anyone that's directly compared a R1 Jazz alto with another alto, I would be interested in hearing your impressions. Thanks!

I know this isn't what you asked for, but there are some R&C reviews on this (http://www.saxreviews.com/rampone_cazzani_saxophones.html) site. There don't appear to be any alto reviews yet, but it should give you an idea of the manufacturer's reputation.

I have a silver-plated R-1 alto - nice horn. I also own a Ref 54, a B&S Medusa, and several vintage altos. I prefer my other altos to the R-1, but keep in mind, that is only one R-1 out of many. And, someone else may like the R-1 better. It is SO subjective. DAVE

Iīve tried one....and i donīt liked at all...intonation problems, projection problems...you can not compare a selmer (and the rest of the big ones)...to a r&c becouse r&c donīt have history...years of making saxs is a big factor to me!but I agree with dave, itīs a matter of tast, itīs subjective of corse!

Well, I'm not so sure about Rampone NOT having a history. They do. DAVE

Well, I'm not so sure about Rampone NOT having a history. They do.Very true! In fact, I have an early R&C silver plated tenor from around the early 1950s, so they go back at least that far. Very cool old horn with "Conn Style" left pinkie keys, rolled toneholes, right side bell toneholes, and wire guards. Can't comment regarding playability as my wife stole it for decorative purposes (no it is not now a lamp or altered in any way) in our living room.

I don't have any of the intonation problem, project problem that Ratxa listed with my R&C sax, even thought mines is soprano, not alto but the other lines of saxes of R&C are superb!

the soprano r&c are good horns...iīve tried the curved ones gold an silver plated and they were great but not as the curved yanagisawa ones...xuanvu for some reason you have a ref54 alto sax and not a r&c:cyclopsa: ...in a empiric way I think r&c altos despite the problems donīt have that body...you know!!!...and italian design itīs not for me....:toothy10:

I got the Reference 54 alto before I got the curved soprano... And yes I found the Reference alto to be better than R&C alto that I've tried, but the R&C don't have any problem, it's a great horn, just not as good as the Ref... Now, the curved soprano IS the one, for me... I've played and owned many other sopranos, including Antigua, Yamaha, Cannonball, Series III soprano and none came close to the curved... Recently, I got a Borgani Jubilee, made from Italy too and it's as good as my curvie except the altissimo is a little bit hard to get, but I do'nt play altissimo with my sop...

Ratxa....
R&C have been making saxophones for 100 years...what do you call history, The Bronze Age? The fact that they continue to hand make all their horn, refusing to mass produce, could perhaps have a bearing on your misconception.......there will never be many around.
