Hello all, I need some help from teh forum. I have exhausted all means of finding more info on this, so hopefully some of you in the know could share your knowledge or experience.

I am trying to determine who actually manufactured my newly-acquired baritone sax. It's marked "Lafleur - Made for Boosey & Hawkes" on the bell, and on the neck it's marekd "Made in Czechoslovakia". Could be as old as 30 years old, to low A, lacquered body, nickel plated keys.

I've learned from my research on this board on others that this is a stenciled horn made either by Kohlert or Amati, depending on manufactured year, so would can give a good guess as to which was the manufacturer based on the serial number "1811XX"?

Thank you very much in advance.

Willy

A couple of non-expert thoughts: If the horn is about 30 years old, i.e., made in the 70's, and marked Made in Czechoslovakia, I don't think it's a Kohlert stencil since the Kohlert family moved to Germany, actually were forced to move by the CZ government, near the end, or just after the end of WWII. Kohlert's name is still being used, but I believe at least some of the users are Taiwanese manufacturers. Another possiblity is that it's not the original neck for the horn? It seems odd that the neck would be marked Made in Czechoslovakia, but no such marking on the body of the sax. I owned a vintage Kohlert & Sons alto a couple of years ago and it was marked Made in Czechoslovakia and had a Julius Keilwerth logo on the body under the thumb hook. Finally, check with saxpics.com (http://www.saxpics.com)for any additional information about Kohlerts and, possibly, Amatis.

Sorry, the "Made in Czechoslovakia" marking is actually on the body of the sax, right on the lip that connects the neck piece. This is the only spot so marked. The bell is engraved "Lafleur-Made for Boosey & Hawkes".

Since my post I have received a couple of helpful posts that identified my horn as an Amati.
