Hello all, I need some help from teh forum. I have exhausted all means of finding more info on this, so hopefully some of you in the know could share your knowledge or experience.

I am trying to determine who actually manufactured my newly-acquired baritone sax. It's marked "Lafleur - Made for Boosey & Hawkes" on the bell, and on the neck it's marekd "Made in Czechoslovakia". Could be as old as 30 years old, to low A, lacquered body, nickel plated keys.

I've learned from my research on this board on others that this is a stenciled horn made either by Kohlert or Amati, depending on manufactured year, so would can give a good guess as to which was the manufacturer based on the serial number "1811XX"?

Thank you very much in advance.

Willy

I think you might be able to tell from the bell brace. There is a Boosey bari on ebay right now in Silverplate that i would swear is an Amati. The bell brace is exactly like the Amati altos I've owned. The brace on my Kohlert is entirely different. My Amati alto also has "Made in Czechoslovakia" on the neck receiver like yours. www.1800usaband.com had an older Amati bari on their website for a while, it might still be there. Good Luck!

I'm not aware of B&H importing from Amati. Could be possible, of course, but I haven't heard of that.

Pictures would be of great benefit.

Well, now you've got me second-guessing myself. Have a look at this auction if you have a chance. I immediately thought Amati when I saw the brace, but the wire key guards and lack of any definitvie marking have me wondering. If I am correct the Kohlert brace is a traingle, straight on the bottom, somewhat curved on top and of a thinner guage.

Any of our British friends know what company imported the Corton Amatis?

Contrabari, is this anything like yours? if the link doesn't work, the number is: 7367453209

As far as I know B&H have stencilled their saxes from Amati for a number of years. I'm pretty certain that those models sold (in the UK) as LaFleur, Powertone, Corton and B&H 400 are the same and made by Amati.

Thanks all for the replies. The eBay horn does look very similar to mine. I do have some good photos, please email me at bassethornmusic@hotmail.com and I will share them with you. Hopefully I can get confirmation, although I do suspect it's an Amati. Thank you all. Willy
