I ordered my SX90R BN alto today. I am in love with the tenor and really needed an alto. The mpc I am using with the tenor is a Lawton Bronze 8*. Can I stay with the same tip opening on alto?

I haven't played alto in many years - I play tenor and soprano now, using a metal link 8* on soprano. I assume if I have no problems with intonation on the soprano with a wide tip opening I shouldn't have problems with the same facing on alto.

Nonetheless, I would like to know what mouthpieces people have used with their altos.

Ony my JK alto I use: a Meyer 5, a Freddie Gregory (Meyer type) 8, a Vandoren A28, a Jody Jazz 5 and a Selmer metal classic C**. I think if you are comfortable with an 8 opening, you should be fine - the Gregory is a bit open for me but it gives a wonderfully full sound on this horn.

Should be fine. I finally came to play a narrower piece on alto, a Meyer 7, while I play 8* Otto Links on soprano and tenor (all of them SX90/SX90R). I think the choice of tip openings is more a question of sound concept than ability (there is a more limited choice for beginners of course).

I play a metal Otto Link 8 on my SX90R tenor and a metal Otto Link 7 on my Series III alto. I don't know why but I found the 8 facing for alto was too open and hard to blow. Sometimes I switch off to a Meyer 5M which is even easier to play.
