View Full Version : How much is a buffet e11 worth?
How much do you think my brother's buffet e11 clainet is worth? I need to know if I should get store credit or sell it. The store will give us 700 is we put the money towards a different instrument.
p.s. it's two years old and in good condition.

If THIS (http://search-completed.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&query2=b uffet+e11&search_option=1&minPrice=&maxPrice=&cate gory0=&completedOnly=30&exclude=&st=&SortProperty= MetaEndSort&maxRecordsPerPage=50&worldlocation=eba yavail&region=0&available_to=1&located_in=1&ebaycu rr=&submit=+Search+&siteid=0&query=buffet+e11&shor tcut=&ebaytag1code_tmp=&ebaytag1_tmp=&ebaytag1code =&ebaytag1=&ebaytag12=ebayreg&from=R14) is any indication then I would say the $700 in store credit would probably be a pretty good offer.

Take the offer! Course, make sure there's stuff you want there. I'd say that's a pretty good offer considering I got my E-13 for just $100 more.

I can't help being cynical about the store's intentions, since a new E11 from the WW&BW can be had any day for $550. Also I've been told that a 100% markup is typical, thus indicating that they intend to try to resell the 2-year-old E11 for $1400. Of course they may not intend to try for a 100% markup, but it still gives us an idea of the store's general price level compared to mail-order.
That being said, I'd still take it. Even if you want some item there that is marked up $4-500 more than the comparable mail-order item, so that your "real" trade-in value is maybe $2-300, you are doing well. One of my techs owns a Music-Go-Round store and I doubt he'd take in an E11 for more than $200, and even then if it's in dead mint condition and he doesn't have to do a thing to it.
I don't mean to come across as confrontational in this post, just wondering aloud about what this store's prices on other items might be. I suppose I should have put some more of these :) :D  in this post.

$700 doesn't sound too bad for a store credit. However, there are a couple of things that you can do to determine its realistic market value.
1. Go to ebay and see what other E-11s are going for. In particular, see what they actually sold for.
2. There is the www.sneezy.org clarinet forum. Their forum has an items for sale or trade section. Check it out and see there are any E-11s listed. If so, look at their asking price.
The two things above should be a pretty good indicator of how good the $700 amount is.
But, there's one sure-fire way to find out....
Post for sale messages about the E-11 at several internet sites such as this Forum, the sneezy.org clarinet forum, and possibly ebay and see what actual offers come in. This will be the best indicator of what's real.
Remember, there's a HUGE difference in selling a top-quality pro level instrument and an intermediate level one. If you have a mint condition pro-level horn that players are drooling over and steeping all over themselves to get, you're in a position to ask for -- and get! -- top dollar. But, there's not such a demand for intermediate level instruments such as a E-11. They can be harder to sell and you might end up actually losing money on one. Anyway, this has been my experience.
Again, $700 doesn't sound too bad. But, please check around to see if it's possible to get a better price.
I hope this helps. Good luck!

Roger - #1: That is precisely what my link was to ;)
Thanks for the help. I'm probably going to trade it in.
