View Full Version : Cork Problems With 590LQ

Since I got the 590LQ, I have used only the bent neck. That was evidently the one Chuck Kessler used to test the horn before shipment. I did not realise how much that test helped get the cork in shape until I tried my new S80 on the straight neck. It was extremely hard to get the piece on and off the cork. On both necks, the mouthpieces must fit very far down on the corks to play in tune with my Seiko tuner. The 4C, Morgan Protone and Bari 66 I have used all were easier to fit than the S80. I will have to sand down the cork a bit on both necks.
I also noticed that, because the mouthpiece fits so far down on the cork, the neck pipe protrudes into the chamber of the S80 rendering the square chamber almost useless.

I have a similar problem on my alto and actually can't get my Runyon mpc in tune, because it can not go on the neck far enough. It will have to be solved by buying a new mouthpiece or sax, one of the 2 should do the trick, :|
Unfortunate, but yet another variable that must be taken into affect.

The S80 has a trend to pinch the cork. My 590 has trouble with the cork being TOO thin.

Matsuo: That's a new on me. I have a ton of S80 soprano pieces and they don't "pinch the cork" on any of my sopranos - or the sopranos I used to own. Cork problems are easily rectified - it has everything to do with the cork and nothing to do with the mouthpiece. DAVE

That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification on the S80.:D
