Looking for a GOOD sax repair specialist in Syracuse or the Central NY area. Used to go to the old Central Music until they became American Music. Now it seems all they care about is student leases. I'd be willing to drive 50 miles or so if I could just find a good repairman to set up my horn properly. Anybody?

I miss the old Central Music days as well. Just like the old Onondaga music days. Boy I guess we just didn't know how well we had it back then.
I live near Syracuse as well.
Well - it is about twice as far as you were looking to travel, but you may want to try Joe Sax (http://www.joesax.com/index.html) down in Walton, NY. If you don't have any other luck in this thread- you may want to try to contact musicians in your local Symphony -or students and professors at the nearest Universities. Maybe include Ithaca area too?
Maybe the poster CircaRevival can help - he is in that area. Best of luck - it seems to be getting hard to find good techs!

When I studied at SU a couple of years ago, Dr. Caravan always thought highly of the repair tech at Hickey's Music in Ithaca. Don't remember his name. I had them do a basic adjust on one of my instruments and had good results. I definately recommend them over American Music. Too commercial and not too interested in the players' needs.

Thanks for the recommendations, guys. Hickey's Music in Ithaca sounds like a good possibility. Anybody else have repair experiences with Hickey's??
I also did a little online searching and found this place- http://www.oneidamusic.com/ which is even closer than Ithaca. I never heard of this shop before. Looking at their repair page, the pricing seems very good- $250 for a Complete Pad Replacement for a Tenor Sax- almost too good! Any Central NY folks ever hear of Oneida Music?

Muzet anyone? I went there after Music and Art screwed up my tenor and they did a great job putting it back into playing condition for FREE. The tech's name is Brian Bird.
Hickey's is where I order books, they have great service. I have never had them do a repair though. :|
