just changed my gear because i had got tired of a 35 minute setup and 35 minute tear down and carrying heavy junk. just used my new set up at my gigs over the weekend and it worked great. i used to carry a power mixer ,monitor on a stand ,alesis effects ,phontom powered adapter yamaha windcontroller ,tone generator etc. ect......
heres the new set up .
1)mackie 6 channel dfx mixer w /phantom powr and built in high quality effects . 16 in all with reverbs, plate reverbs delays and chorus etc... 4 or 5 pounds ??with case i bought at home depot that fits it . put a little bubble wrap in there
2)shure beta 98 hc clip on mic that fits in my tenor case
3)galaxy powered hot spot type monitor with clip that fits on mic stand
this monitor weighs 12.5 pounds and has 146 watts of power!! enough to power 2 more monitors! it will give you a new hairdo if you turn it up too loud! sits at ear level. like a monitor should. instead of feet level.
this little rig is put together with 2 chords and a power strip which fit it my sax case .
one to connect the mackie to the powered monitor and and one line out the mackie to the main board.
i used this setup this weekend and it was great! got compliments from band members and the audience on my sound. best of all it takes 5 minutes. (if that ) to set up and tear down. id guess the whole rig wieghs about 17 to 18 pounds.
the sound? damn good! portability?great! cost? total for powered monitor with clip and stand ,mackie dfx mixer and shure beta 98 was about 700.00 but who cares?
ive been lugging around so much stuff for many years that i had to simplify. ive experimented for years trying to find the most sensible best sounding live setup and at the age of 44 i think i found a cool setup. thought i pass it on to others that were tired of lugging gear but still wanted a great sound and something simple to use that requires no time to setup at all . let me know what you guys think or if anybody else has come to the same conclusions.i know its not the most elaborate set up but i think im just getting too old to still be lugging a ton of gear.
