Just bought my first tenor the other day..thanks to eBay! Anyhoo...

What I bought is a vintage Rampone tenor, and I mainly bought it because of all the great things I've heard about the modern Rampone horns, and I can say that at least this one stands up to that reputation. I was just sort of wondering what year it was made in, since I cannot find any serial number charts for Rampone. It is engraved A. Rampone, Quarna Novara, Italy on the bell, and it's serial number is 89,5xx. Thnaks in advance to anyone who can tell me when this horn is from!

Congratulations!

My A. Rampone tenor has serial number 13359 and its a very good solid horn.

Be aware that some Rampone horns are less good. I bought a very early Rampone tenor, and it was a dog. The metal was very thin, the keys were soft, etc.

Primetme....Have you thought of seeking that information from Rampone & Cazzani......they really are most helpful people? While you are at it why not ask them if they can publish a date list....I am sure that others would like to be able to date their R&Cs.

I've got an offer for a RAMPONE QUARNANOVARA SOLISTA (so says the bell), and would like to know wether that's a good horn. Maybe impossible to know without playtesting? What's your experience. I pretend to get the serial soon. Thanks for the help.

Also how is the rampone Super?, it seems to be their lower end saxes i belive. Any comments on these too?

Bye.
