View Full Version : Range?
Anybody know the range of one of these saxes? It seems like it could only be two octaves, since every finger is used for a different chromatic note. Also, how is the octave key used? If the LH thumb is already in use for one of the chromatic notes, how is the octave key activated? It seems a silly system to people who have been playing saxes for a while. I can't imagine no palm keys and no notes below low D...

The only note which doesn't use the left hand thumb (C) would be the C#, so that key would be essentially the same as the thumb rest we use all the time. So high C# to F# would be like use depressing the "octave key" without leaving any portion of our thumb on the thumb rest.
And as for range, he has a nice little diagram showing how it achieves a normal range of Bb to F# right here (http://draco.its.csufresno.edu/~js210/finger.html).
