View Full Version : Reed interchangeability...baritone on tenor?

Since my clarinet reeds will play on my soprano, I was wandering if maybe my baritone sax reeds will play OK on my tenor?

The baritone reeds are almost the same width as the tenor reeds.

Thanks,

The reason clarinet and soprano reeds are interchangeable is cuz they're the same size. Just like alto clarinet/alto sax, bass clarinet/tenor sax, contrabass clarinet/bari sax. I don't know if it'll work, but I'm sure it's possible.

I will try to use some of my left over baritone sax reeds on my tenor.

The alto sax and alto clarinet reeds are the same width, butt length different.

The tenor sax and bass clarinet reeds are the same width, butt length different.

The bari sax and contrabass clarinet.

The soprano sax reed is slightly wider than the soprano clarinet reed, but generally theyboth can work on either instrument.

With the larger reeds, the butt end of the sax reeds are too long, and will interfere with placing the low clarinet mouthpiece into the neck pipe socket. They can be cut off with a razor saw.

Actually,

Both the width and length of the alto clarinet reed is shorter than an alto saxophone reed. Same with bass clarinet and tenor sax reeds.

The soprano sax reed is also shorter than the clarinet reed.
